OHLA USA Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Welder in Vero Beach, Florida

Summary Our company has an immediate opening for aHeavy Equipment Mechanic / WelderinVero Beach. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Welder will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery used in the Paving and Construction industrysuch as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, paving machines, pickup trucks, etc. Their duties include running diagnostic tests, perform repairs as needed and maintaining detailed records of the vehicles and equipment they have serviced.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Run and analyzediagnostic tests and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, excavators, loaders, paving machines, etc.)
  • Repair/rebuild (replacing engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems)all equipment and vehicles as determined by the Shop Manager and schedules.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including inspections, oil changes, lubrication, and adjustments.
  • Repair or replace worn parts, such as bearings, clutches, and hydraulics.
  • Perform welding and metal fabrication to repair or reinforce structural components of heavy equipment.
  • Respond to on-site breakdowns to diagnose and repair equipment in the field.
  • Operate construction equipment and vehicles in order to repair.
  • Strive to maintain zero repeat/redo repairs.
  • Clean equipment and vehicles in the process of making repairs.
  • Maintain daily logs in a legitimate, timely and organized fashion.
  • Meet daily, weekly and monthly safety inspection goal at shop and in the field.
  • Assist in keeping the shop organized and clean.
  • Assist with small tool and equipment maintenance, repair as needed.
  • Seek knowledge of new technologies/methods used in truck and equipment maintenance.
  • Recommend measures to Shop Manager to improve safety, production, equipment performance and repair quality.
  • Abide by company work policies and safety rules.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Must hold a valid driver's license and havetransportation. CDL is preferred but not required.
  • Detailed knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and heavy machinery.
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics, blueprints, and repair manuals.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Certification in heavy equipment mechanics or welding is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic and welder.

Language Skills:

  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, mechanics and supervisors, to perform job functions and report any mechanical issue.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job requires physical demands such as:

  • Climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and walking
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
