National Winter Actvity Center WINTER: Snowmaker Lead in Vernon, New Jersey

Position Purpose:

Follows snowmaking operations plan as set forth by the Snowmaking Supervisor. Coordinates operations with other Snowmakers.

Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Valid driver’s license with no restrictions

  • 5 years’ Ski area/industry experience

  • Understanding of mechanical operations, diesel engines, hydraulics and hydrostatic drives, preferred

  • Experience working with and around heavy equipment, preferred but not required

  • Must be drug free (pre-employment and random drug testing) Required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to speak, read and write English

  • Must be punctual and reliable

  • Must be able to follow instructions and work as part of a team

  • Able to work with minimum supervision

    Responsibilities:

  • Operates Snowmaking equipment as directed by the Snowmaking Operation Plan

  • Becomes familiar with operating instructions of all Snowmaking equipment. This includes, but is not limited to compressors, pumps, snowmaking guns and snowmaking hoses.

  • Acquires acute safety practices pertaining to the above mentioned and other related equipment.

  • Operates snowmobiles as directed by the provided Winter4kids training.

  • Operate Snowmaking equipment to produce a quality snow surface for guests

  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment, including checking water pipes, fluid levels and volume, temperature controls, energy consumption, diesel fuel systems, bolts, belts, hoses, tensions, etc.

  • Monitor water resources and reservoirs at resort and total energy usage

  • Document and report mechanical and safety issues, completes maintenance logs and checklists for various pieces of equipment

  • Perform light maintenance or repairs on equipment

  • Work closely with and assist other departments

  • Perform other duties as assigned while waiting for optimum snowmaking weather

    Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Standing for long period of time, up to 90% or more of a normal 8-hour shift

  • Must be capable of balancing, climbing, reaching, squatting, bending, kneeling, stopping, crawling, using equipment controls and push, lift or pull up to 75 lbs

  • Ability to work effectively at high elevations, and function effectively in extreme cold weather conditions and in other inclement weather conditions

  • Must be able to work graveyard shifts, late-night hours, weekends and holidays

  • Specific vision abilities required for this job, include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Under plumes of snow guns, i.e., wet conditions.

  • Lift heavy objects including snowmobiles.

  • Skiing or walking with bamboo, signs, tools, hoses, etc.

    Materials Used:

  • Snowmaking guns, including fan type and air water.

  • Air compressors, water pumps, high pressure water and air hoses, propane torches.

  • Snowmobiles and UTV

    Operations

  • Must be able to work on your feet, stand, and walk for up to 8 hours at a time in all weather conditions.

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs. of material routinely unassisted and occasionally up to 100lbs.

  • Must be able to reach in all directions, including overhead and flexible in range of motion.

  • Must be able to perform functions required to operate all forms of routine office equipment, and communication systems.
