National Winter Actvity Center WINTER: Lift Mechanic in Vernon, New Jersey

Position Purpose:

The role of a lift mechanic includes overseeing the maintenance of chair lifts, operating snowmaking equipment, confidently performing mechanical repairs, and providing a safe atmosphere for our guests to have a quality experience on the mountain.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years documented experience repairing lifts and mountain operations equipment.

  • Previous ski area management is a plus.

  • Valid Driver’s License with no restrictions.

  • Understanding of mechanical operations, diesel engines, hydraulics, and hydrostatic drives.

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.

  • 18 years or older.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • General understanding of maintenance practices for ski lifts and mountain operations.

  • Experience with lift mechanisms and mountain operations.

  • Having the ability to work with a team to complete tasks in a timely manner.

  • Using problem solving skills to depict best option for the situations at hand while following safety procedures.

  • Awareness of ski area operations.

    Responsibilities:

  • Operates Lift equipment in a safe manor in accordance with state, OSHA, ANSI requirements.

  • Conducts regular maintenance checks on equipment, including daily, weekly, and monthly checks.

  • Conducts regular maintenance checks on equipment, including carriers, signage, communication, controls.

  • Responsible for shoveling and clearing snow from loading and unloading ramps and maintaining proper loading and unloading heights.

  • Be alert for mechanical, or electrical problems with lifts.

  • The ability to operate snow equipment including snowmobiles.

  • Confidently perform mechanical tasks as needed.

  • Operate snowmaking equipment as directed by Operations Plan if needed.

  • Maintain load and unload ramps and areas around lift stations.

  • Knowledge of mechanics that may need to be done to lifts when unexpected conditions arise.

  • Acquires acute safety training practices pertaining to all equipment.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Standing for long period of time, up to 90% or more of a normal 8-hour shift

  • Must be capable of balancing, climbing, reaching, squatting, bending, kneeling, stopping, crawling, using equipment controls and push, lift or pull up to 75 lbs.

  • Ability to work effectively at high elevations, and function effectively in extreme cold weather conditions and in other inclement weather conditions.

  • Must be able to work graveyard shifts, late-night hours, weekends, and holidays.

  • Specific vision abilities required for this job, include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate, this job may experience hazards such as mechanical, electrical, fumes, odors, dusts, gases.

    Materials Used:

  • Snowmaking guns, air compressors, water pumps running high pressure air and water through hoses. • Snowmobiles

  • Electrical testing equipment.

  • Lift operation controls.

  • Basic hand tools including wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, shovels, etc.

  • Equipment used in job: appropriate PPE, snow guns, hoses, hydrants, compressors, hand tools, torches, snowmobile, skis, or snowboard.
