Leidos is seeking a Chemist to join the Climate, Energy & Environmental Division’s onsite laboratory in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, supporting the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP)project. This position will require the use of various laboratory instrumentation to support onsite environmental remediation work. This position will also assist with data analysis, review, and reporting.

Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation; per contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required.

Your Main Objectives:

  • Perform formal chain-of-custody sample receipt, verification of sample information, and logging of samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

  • Perform sample analysis using instrumentation including alpha spectroscopy, gamma spectroscopy gross alpha/beta analysis, liquid scintillation, and ICP-MS analysis.

  • Maintain a clean laboratory environment by following all laboratory decontamination procedures.

  • Processing of sample results from the instrumentation to the LIMS.

  • Complete data package assembly including primary and secondary reviews and to identify and correct mistakes and inconsistencies.

  • Applicant must be able to follow all radiation and safety procedures in all areas of the laboratory.

  • Applicant must be willing to work on other laboratory projects and some travel to other Leidos laboratories to support setup or laboratory operations.

  • Applicant must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology or a related scientific discipline or an Associate’s degree and 2 years’ experience working in a laboratory setting.

  • Capable of reviewing, compiling, and providing data files to users.

  • Capable of performing counting procedures on alpha, gamma, gross alpha/beta, and liquid scin samples.

This role is covered by the Service Contract Act. The pay for this position is expected to be $28-35/hr.
