Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Job Description

As an Environmental Health and Safety Manager, you will develop and drive the implementation of leading and proactive indicators and metrics to identify opportunities for improvements. You will create and execute strategies to reduce costs associated with job-related injuries, illnesses, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, you will examine the work environment for various hazards and define corrective actions to enhance worker health and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive the implementation of leading/proactive indicators and metrics to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Create and implement strategies to reduce costs associated with job-related injuries and illnesses.

  • Create and implement strategies to eliminate or reduce costs associated with regulatory compliance.

  • Examine the work environment for physical, chemical, biological, and environmental hazards/stresses.

  • Define corrective actions to reduce stresses that impair health and worker efficiency.

  • Evaluate areas for hazards and recommend improvements or protective equipment requirements.

  • Interpret standards/regulations and maintain cooperative relationships with regulators.

  • Assist in the investigation of EHS complaints and incidents.

  • Provide technical expertise in designing protective equipment for processes and machinery, and redesign equipment to eliminate/reduce safety and health hazards as necessary.

  • Provide technical expertise to the business unit regarding day-to-day process operations, process changes, relocations, new processes, products, technology, facilities, equipment, and interactions with contract personnel.

  • Ensure all plant policies and procedures comply with federal, state, and local requirements.

  • Continually educate and refresh all plant employees on EHS policies and procedures.

  • Share best practices with other company locations.

  • Manage and lead plant compliance in completing safety audits and follow-up corrective actions.

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive EHS training program for all plant employees.

  • Facilitate and conduct safety training sessions in a manner understandable to a wide variety of constituencies.

  • Team with department managers and staff to develop proactive solutions and reduce safety incidents.

  • Maintain records, reports, and logs regarding safety incidents, including OSHA regulations, recordkeeping, and reporting.

  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism and discretion in contacts with plant, corporate employees, and external agencies.

  • Act as a change agent for behavioral improvements.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of EHS experience in a heavy manufacturing setting.

  • Examples of previous site safety improvement projects.

  • Knowledge of safety, EHS, OSHA, environmental safety, audit, industrial hygiene, site safety, safety training, safety management, and safety programs.

  • Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and administer a broad range of tasks.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to facilitate and conduct safety training sessions.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • ASP or CSP certifications preferred.

  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $105000.00

On top of our competitive compensation package, we offer a benefits package that covers medical, dental and vision. Short term and long term disability is also included.
