The RN Delegating School Nurse delegates the assignment ofroutine nursing tasks to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP). The RN is responsible for continuousoversight of the delegated tasks and maintaining documentation of the UAP.

The oversight includes ensuring that delegated tasks arewithin the best interest of the student and apart of the students IHP/ 504plan. The RN is also responsible forassessing competency and skills of the UAP who will be performing routinestandardized nursing tasks.

The oversight will include supervision of the UAP’s asrequired by regulation, contract and personnel management associated with theclinical delivery. The RN DelegatingSchool Nurse is accountable to all federal, state, and local contracts andprograms, and Amergis requirements.

The RN Delegating School Nurse is also responsible for theongoing evaluation of UAP’s in collaboration with the district nurse. Criticalto this role is the assurance of clinical skills and competency of caregiversas well as safety for the student. This position will include ongoing caregiversupervision, development and evaluation under the direction of the DistrictBuilding Nurse and Amergis Healthcare Staffing requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determines if delegated task is within the best interest andsafety of the student outlined in the student’s IHP/504 Plan and permitted bystate regulations

  • Verifies that the delegated tasks are within the scope ofpractice as determined by State Board of

  • Nursing, National Association of School Nurses and Amergis policy

  • Handles onsite evaluation of the competency of the UAP andtheir written documentation is required by the delegating RN

  • Complete all trainings and attains all certifications asrequired by federal, state, or program requirements

  • Provides clinical oversight, support and care management asrequired by contract and/or regulation

  • Collaborates with district to provide supervision toschool-based professionals while on assignment; assesses and investigates staffconcerns and issues, and provides performance coaching when appropriate

  • Meets routinely with the district, to ensure communication,collaboration, and continuity of care

  • Provides and ensures student care coordination andtransition management activities, as directed by contract

  • May be required to provide direct nursing care in theabsence of an assigned SBP at a site

  • Partners with the District RN and Internal Amergis Clinicaldesignee to ensure compliance on delegation and supervision requirements

  • Collaborates with the client’s building nurse/districtnurse, medical director, and school-based professionals regarding nursingpractice, training, client policies, procedures and protocols

  • Attends other mandatory training, orientations and meetingsat the request of the client

  • Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement and evaluatestudent’s care needs

  • Demonstrates on each assignment the provision of skillednursing care in accordance with prescribed orders/IHP

  • Performs interventions, treatments and medications accordingto the identified priorities as outlined in the IHP

Minimum Requirements:

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in state of practice

  • Minimum two years’ experience in school nursingpreferred

  • Pediatric experience preferred

  • Supervisory experience, preferred

  • Successful completion of the “Delegating to UnlicensedPersonnel” training module required

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
