Job Summary
The Vascular Access Nurse specializes in the care and management of patient vascular access needs, ensuring that the individuals receive safe and effective intravenous therapy. The role encompasses the assessment of patients to determine the most appropriate types of vascular access device based on their specific conditions and treatment plans.
Essential Functions
Specific nurse duties and responsibilities can include:
Insertion, maintenance and removal of peripheral intravenous catheters ensuring minimal discomfort and adherence to infection control standards.
Assessment of patient vascular access needs to determine the most appropriate types of access device based on treatment duration, medication type, and patient condition.
Implementation of ultrasound-guided vascular access techniques for patients with difficult venous access, enhancing success rates and minimizing patient discomfort.
Perform audits on central lines to ensure compliance
Education of patients and their families on the care and maintenance of vascular access devices, including signs of infection, to promote patient involvement in their care.
Management of central venous access devices, including dressing changes, flushing and troubleshooting, to ensure device functionality and reduce the risk of complications.
Seek educational resources and create learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for his or her continuing competence in nursing practice, and individual professional growth.
Acting as patient advocate
Consistently provides outstanding service to all patients, physicians, fellow employees, and guests as appropriate to the position.
Actively participates in department committees and group meetings with a focus on providing input to improve the quality of services.
Consistently demonstrates behavior which reflects that working as a team is more important than self-interest.
Protects confidentiality of patients/co-workers, respecting their dignity, privacy, and differences
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in acute care nursing with at least 1 years’ experience in cardiac/critical care nursing role preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in acute care nursing with at least 1 years’ experience in cardiac/critical care nursing role preferred.
Indiana RN License Required
BLS Required
ACLS within 6 months of hire
Licenses and Certifications
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required
BCLS - Basic Life Support required
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred
