The Human Resources Manager interacts with Corporate Human Resources and Plant Management to manage compliance with UGN policies and procedures to maintain equitable and consistent development and treatment of personnel. Administers and monitors policies relating to all phases of Human Resources activity by performing the following duties personally or with the assistance of plant management. This position is part of our team located at our plant in Valparaiso, IN. This position currently has a HR Generalist and a HR Assistant reporting to it.

Responsibilities:

Human Resources

  • Recruit, interview, and select team members to fill vacant positions in the plant facility.

  • Plan and conduct new team member orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.

  • Ensure records of team member transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, are properly maintained.

  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local labor laws. Manage consistent and equitable application of UGN policies, disciplinary procedures and compensation program.

  • Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.

  • Administer performance review and salary administration program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.

  • Conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.

  • Prepare reports and recommend procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.

  • Assist Managers and Shift Coordinators with team member concerns, discipline and interpretation of company policies. Advise team members on matters affecting their employment.

  • Allow an open door forum for team members to voice their questions, concerns, or complaints.

  • Investigate complaints regarding team member relations. Represent organization at legal hearings and investigations.

  • Perform training as required for hourly and managerial personnel.

  • Lead plant communication meetings and team member involvement programs.

Safety

  • Develop and train team members in safety programs to maintain UGN safety standards and compliance with federal or state regulations.

  • Implement policies, plans and procedures required by OSHA. Ensure safety enforcement by department managers.

  • Utilize investigating procedures, medical counseling, team member communications and money management strategies to minimize lost time and worker's compensation costs.

  • Manage the process of keeping current all plant written safety information, plans, programs, practices, and procedures.

  • Maintain all OSHA documentation and accident/injury reports.

  • Understand UGN processes, equipment and facilities as they apply to safety issues.

  • Directly manages Team Members in the Human Resources Department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

  • Eight plus years HR generalist experience in a manufacturing environment. Managerial experience preferred.

  • Strong employee relations/interpersonal communication skills with all levels.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where quick decision making skills are required.

  • Ability to prioritize/juggle multiple responsibilities and problem solve.

  • Experience leading safety and knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations

  • PHR/SPHR is a plus.
