Our Geotechnical Practice is currently seeking a dynamic Sr. Project Geologist to join our team in Valley Forge, PA.  In this position, you will lead junior level geological and geotechnical staff and assist project managers in planning and overseeing subsurface explorations and performing analyses and developing deliverables for transportation, facilities, water resources and other types of projects.

This is a hybrid position, and you must be able to commute to our Valley Forge, PA office on a regular basis.

Mentorship: Work alongside and learn from nationally recognized thought leaders in the fields of engineering and geology and have the opportunity to mentor junior staff Culture of Learning: 100% tuition reimbursement for advancing your education and access to our comprehensive Learning Network Responsibilities will include: Serve as a geotechnical task manager or technical lead for small- to medium-sized projects including, but not limited to, highway and rail projects, retaining structures, sinkhole remediation, landslide/slope stabilization and rockfall mitigation. Develop and manage the execution of complex subsurface exploration programs and laboratory testing programs. Plan and execute detailed field reconnaissance and geological research to evaluate site-specific geotechnical, geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and risks. Manage and perform slope stability evaluations for soil and rock slopes. Independently prepare technical reports and documentation, correspondence, analyses, design drawings, and specifications in accordance with scope requirements. Perform QA/QC activities for project deliverables. Manage or provide specialty geo-construction observation support during the construction phase of various projects, when needed. Work with proposal managers to determine geo-related client requirements and develop suitable scopes of work, schedules, and budgets to accomplish client objectives. Perform and/or direct routine and complex data analyses, geologic hazard assessments and engineering calculations, such as soil and rock slope stability evaluations and design of geo-hazard mitigation systems. Provide geotechnical support related to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Dam Safety Program reviews, inspections, and assessments. Ensure that project deliverables meet project scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.  Perform QA/QC activities for deliverables. Review contractor submittals and respond to requests for information, evaluate the need for design changes, and make appropriate geotechnical recommendations. Consult with contractors concerning project viability. Consult with construction personnel regarding field conditions, construction sequencing, and scheduling of activities. Provide direction to, and supervision and mentorship of, junior level staff. Communicate independe tly with clients, when required, including attending onsite and off-site client meetings. Work in multi-disciplinary teams while leading geotechnical tasks. This position requires independent travel on an as-needed basis to other Gannett Fleming offices, client offices, or project work sites and may include overnight or extended out-of-town travel to meet project needs.Education | Experience: Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Applied Geoscience, Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline Master's Degree in Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or similar strongly preferred Professional Geologist (P.G.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license with ability to become licensed in additional jurisdictions 10-15+ years of progressive engineering geology experience with an emphasis in design and development of geotechnical deliverables including reports, drawings and specifications Project experience with roadways, soil and rock slope mitigation, ground improvement, retaining walls, and/or embankments.  Experience with railroad projects is strongly preferred. Experience with FERC Part 12D Safety Program reviews, inspections, and assessments is strongly preferred. Experience with common geological software such as gINT, Slide, Dips, RocFall, SWedge, RocPlane and others Expertise with Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD and ArcGIS is strongly preferred Strong analytical, report writing, management and communication skills Knowledge of conventional survey methods, LiDAR and photogrammetric technology used in engineering geology applications Excellent field reconnaissance, observation and data collection/documentation skills Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons, when needed, and sit or stand for extended periods of time Must be able to carry equipment across rugged terrain Must be able to lift 40 pounds Must have valid driver's license in the US OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification a plus Competency in test boring inspection, test pit observation, geotechnical instrumentation and well installation, geophysical surveys, and geological reconnaissanceCompany Overview: At Gannett Fleming, we believe in improving the lives of the people we serve.
