Touro University Legal Administrator in Valhalla, New York
Overview
The Office of General Counsel provides legal counsel, preventative legal guidance and advice, and specialized professional services in the handling of the broad range of legal issues that arise from the activities of the College, which trains health care professionals and conducts extensive academic biomedical research. These matters include regulatory compliance, litigation, advising on academic, intellectual property, and employment issues, preparing and negotiating contracts and agreements, and representing the College commercial transactions. The Office of Institutional Compliance helps ensure the effective management of the College’s business in accordance with its legal, regulatory, and ethical responsibilities, and it receives and investigates concerns of wrongdoing or suspected violations of College policies or laws. Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Counsel, the Legal Administrator will provide high quality legal assistance, compliance, and administrative support in all aspects of the Department’s work. This position requires a high level of initiative, the ability to multi-task and work independently, and strong communication and organization skills . Previous legal and/or compliance experience is preferred. This is a hybrid position, with approximately three days per week required in person. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
Responsibilities
Review and edit agreements
Draft legal papers, letters, and forms
Create and maintain files, databases, and spreadsheets regarding outstanding legal matters
Communicate with internal and external constituencies, including complainants, witnesses, outside counsel, and tribunals
Investigate facts and circumstances of compliance complaints, primarily through internal contacts and resources, to chronicle events and report possible solutions
Compile and evaluate evidence
Conduct compliance interviews and prepare appropriate summaries
Research factual information relating to cases and assist in legal research
Respond to inquiries with a comprehensive knowledge of the Department’s policies and procedures
Customize and/or compose letters in response to requests for information
Maintain forms required by local, state and federal agencies
Review, revise, and draft policies, procedures, and practices
Schedule meetings and maintain attorney(s) calendar(s)
Answer telephone calls and receive mail
Process purchase orders and invoices for the Department and assist in keeping the Department in line with budget.
Interact with the general public and College personnel including those at the senior level to resolve issues and problems
Other duties deemed appropriate by department staff
Qualifications
Education requirement:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
At least 1-3 years of relevant work experience
Technical/computer skills:
Strong organizational skills; reliable; manages time well
Attention to detail and ability to multi-task and work under deadlines
Able to adapt to evolving responsibilities
Demonstrated experience in dealing with high stress situations
Open to communication and willing to accept feedback
Exceptional communication and language skills, both oral and written; can write in a clear and concise fashion
A high degree of interpersonal competency; the ability to work well with a diverse group of students, volunteers, staff, consultants, board members and faculty
Planning and project management execution skills
Other skills/requirements: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
Physical demands:

Maximum Salary
USD $70,000.00/Yr.
