Job Summary:
The Associate Director of Pharmacy Services provides strategic oversight and leadership for pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and specialty areas. There will be multiple Associate Directors, each focusing on distinct responsibilities. This role works closely with the Director of Pharmacy Services and other network Pharmacy leaders to ensure that the department is optimized for quality, safety, and efficiency. The Associate Director collaborates with interdepartmental leadership to align Pharmacy services with network-wide goals, assists with financial and process improvement efforts, and ensures compliance with all regulatory standards. This position also serves as a mentor to pharmacy managers and staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
Responsibilities:
Provide direct oversight and mentorship to Pharmacy Managers, aligning team objectives with organizational priorities
Develop and manage workflows to meet evolving hospital needs while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate Pharmacy services into network-wide initiatives
Oversee the use of Pharmacy technology systems, including automated dispensing cabinets, sterile compounding, and computerized prescriber order entry systems
Monitor and adjust key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous quality improvement and operational excellence
Lead quality and performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, operational efficiency, and clinical outcomes
Serve as a liaison between the Pharmacy Department and hospital leadership to align Pharmacy contributions with organizational goals
- Assist in developing and managing the Pharmacy budget, ensuring efficient resource use while identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising care quality
Oversee labor management, including scheduling, overtime monitoring, and resource allocation across all Pharmacy units
Optimize formulary and inventory management, ensuring timely procurement and minimizing waste
Support compliance with 340B program requirements and maximize cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure adherence to USP standards, state and federal regulations, and accreditation requirements
Collaborate with the Medication Safety Officer to implement strategies that minimize medication errors and improve patient outcomes
Oversee Pharmacy responses to inspections and audits, ensuring timely resolution of findings
Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and performance management of Pharmacy staff
Foster a collaborative and professional work environment, promoting professional development and succession planning
Develop and implement staff training and competency programs to uphold operational and clinical excellence
Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents, promoting clinical expertise and leadership development
Engage in research and quality improvement initiatives, contributing to publications and presentations
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to pharmacy operations
Lead modernization initiatives, including the expansion of centralized and decentralized Pharmacy services
Collaborate with IT to integrate Pharmacy software systems with hospital platforms effectively
Qualifications/Requirements:
B.S. Pharm. or Pharm.D. from accredited School of Pharmacy
Preferred:
MHA, MBA, MPH, or other related advanced degree
PGY1 pharmacy residency
PGY2 residency in Health-System Pharmacy Administration
Required:
B.S. Pharm. or Pharm.D. from accredited School of Pharmacy
Preferred:
MHA, MBA, MPH, or other related advanced degree
PGY1 pharmacy residency
PGY2 residency in Health-System Pharmacy Administration
Required:
Active New York State Pharmacist license
Preferred:
Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification
Certifications in Lean Six Sigma, 340B, or other applicable areas
Reports to: Director of Pharmacy
Schedule: Full-time, with potential weekend and holiday shifts as needed.
