Touro University Assistant Professor in Valhalla, New York

Overview

The Division of Speech-Language Pathology in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the School of Health Sciences and Practice at New York Medical College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor. The Division offers an innovative, medically oriented curriculum that leads to a Master of Science degree. The Division enjoys regular professional interactions with graduate programs within the School of Health Sciences and Practice, the School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the Touro College of Dental Medicine. On-campus clinical sites include Westchester Medical Center, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, and the Division of Speech-Language Pathology of Boston Children’s Health Physicians, the department’s on-campus clinic. We also work with numerous hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and private practice clinics, providing opportunities for research collaboration. Qualified applicants will have a history of or demonstrated potential for achievements in teaching and scholarship. The academic courseload is designed to provide ample opportunity for research pursuits. Senior faculty support is provided for advancing an emerging or established research agenda. Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or ABD) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field (e.g., Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Sciences or other appropriate area). The ideal candidate will have expertise in neuromotor communication disorders, voice disorders, fluency disorders, and speech science. Other areas of interest will be considered and are welcome. Responsibilities will include teaching, research, and service at the School and College levels. The ability to work with faculty and students in a collaborative model of student-centered education is a priority. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position. Responsibilities

Assistant Professors teach in the areas of content expertise in the department’s academic program. Duties of this position include:

  • Prepare course content for assigned academic course that meets accreditation knowledge and skills expectations

  • Develop course syllabi

  • Teach courses within the identified days/times

  • Complete all grading requirements in a timely manner as identified in the course syllabi

  • Complete department’s remediation process with appropriate referrals for academic support

  • Complete final grade submission at the end of the semester

  • Complete Canvas LMS modules and utilize Canvas for the courses, meeting deadlines for posting content.

  • Contribute to the development of student-focused and inter-professional activities

  • Actively participate in faculty and committee meetings to further enhance the program

  • Develop, execute and publish programmatic research, with student involvement when possible

Qualifications

Education requirement:Ph.D. (or ABD) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field (e.g., Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Sciences or other appropriate area)

Licenses or certifications:NYS License in speech-language pathology; Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

Technical/computer skills:Computer use to complete teaching tasks, ability to access web-based LMS system (Canvas), and ability to navigate TouroOne for posting grades

Prior experience:Prior higher education teaching experience is preferred. The ability to work with faculty and students in a collaborative model of student-centered education is a priority.

Other skills/requirements:The ideal candidate will have expertise in neuromotor communication disorders, voice disorders, fluency disorders, and speech science.

Minimum Salary

USD $95,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary

USD $110,000.00/Yr.
