Production Worker (Refinery) - Valdosta, GA

This is a full-time, hourly position

Job Summary/Scope

Summarize the purpose of this job and its contribution to the department or the organization

The Production Worker position is the next level position above Utility within the Refinery. Responsibilities include supplying materials to the production area, general housekeeping, receiving and maintaining materials for inventory, and assist operators in various production areas as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Adhere and enforce all personnel safety, food safety, and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and programs that are applicable to the position.

  • Adhere to and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

  • Rotating shift position

  • Must maintain qualifications to assume duties and responsibilities of the Utility position

  • Industrial forklift/truck operations

  • Assist with rail car movements as a Ground Man as governed by the Rail Safety Program.

  • Receive and unload incoming bulk and non-bulk ingredients and supplies

  • Maintain product rotation of non-bulk ingredients in accordance to FIFO standards

  • Operate a tape measure with a ball float for inventory purposes.

  • Obtain production samples from various sources for quality and environmental purposes.

  • Operate and maintain wastewater unit operation and all feed sources to unit operation for acceptable discharge within operating permits.

  • Able to temporarily step up to an Operator III position when needed to fulfill responsibilities as designated by supervision. The employee must be approved by management and have met the qualifications of the Operator III in order to be temporarily assigned this responsibility level.

The Operator II responsibilities

Include those of the PW and Operator III positions in addition to operation of all refinery unit operations. This position also has more critical quality control responsibilities.

  • Follow all safety and environmental rules and regulations applicable to position.

  • Adhere to and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and HACCP requirements.

  • Rotating shift position

  • Maintain housekeeping of assigned work areas

  • Supply materials to the production areas

  • Complete paperwork, inventory tracking/counting

  • Must maintain qualifications to assume duties and responsibilities of an Operator III

  • Operate and troubleshoot soy refining

  • Operate and troubleshoot soy bleaching

  • Operate and troubleshoot cotton bleaching

  • Conduct production changes

  • Able to temporarily step up to an Operator I position when needed to fulfill responsibilities in the refinery loadout department.

Competencies

  • Must be able to read/write/speak English, must be able to do basic arithmetic.

  • Must be able to write clearly

  • Must be able to communicate with other employees in a clear and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED required

  • Experience in food preparation or industrial setting preferred

  • Position requires basic computer operation skills, i.e. use of “point and click” programs.

  • Forklift/Industrial Truck certification required

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Troubleshoot equipment failures

  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time while performing job duties

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly

  • Must be able to wear a respirator

  • Must be capable of bending, kneeling, working in confined spaces and from heights
