Upstate Cerebral Palsy Food Service Teacher Aide in Utica, New York

Description

The Food Service/Teacher Aide position plays a vital role in providing nutritious meals to students in a welcoming and clean environment. This position works closely with school district/BOCES partners to ensure food is received, handled and served in accordance with appropriate guidelines. This position is responsible for food preparation and service as well as maintaining cleanliness standards in accordance with health and safety regulations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with district and BOCES partners to complete necessary documentation for meal orders and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

  • Assist in meal preparation and serving, following student dining plans, meal time guidelines and portion guidelines.

  • Maintain adequate supply of utensils, condiments, and other necessary items in classrooms and cafeteria.

  • Serve food to students courteously and efficiently, adhering to portion control standards.

  • Keep records of meals served and provide documentation to district/BOCES partners as required.

  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation in the cafeteria by cleaning tables, countertops, serving areas, and equipment, including washing dishes and kitchen equipment.

  • Follow food safety procedures, including proper storage, handling, and labeling.

  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries of food supplies and merchandise.

  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper use of protective equipment and sanitation protocols.

  • Manage inventory by rotating stock, monitoring expiration dates, and reporting shortages to the Cafeteria Manager.

  • Provide friendly and helpful customer service to students, staff, and visitors.

  • Collaborate with cafeteria staff, school personnel, and building/agency leadership to ensure smooth meal service and dining area cleanliness.

  • Attend training sessions and meetings to stay updated on food safety, menu changes, and departmental policies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by building leadership or supervisory staff.

  • Provide assistance in coordinating individual and group activities in the classroom.

  • Provide thorough documentation.

  • Attend to personal, self-care and other program needs the students cannot independently accomplish.

  • Assist therapists as needed in carrying out student therapy goals.

  • Provide physical and/or verbal support to acute behavior issues.

  • Provide a supportive person-centered approach while interacting with students.

  • Participate in classroom maintenance and organization.

    Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 1-year food service experience preferred.

  • Valid NYS Drivers License
