Suny Polytechnic Institute Assistant Director of Student Involvement in Utica, New York

Description of Duties:

The Assistant Director of Student Involvement works closely with students and members of the campus community to enhance quality of the SUNY Poly experience through new and relevant programming initiatives that involve students and faculty/staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: conceptualization, design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of campus wide programs and events. The Assistant Director oversees the spending activities of students utilizing a $500,000 budget. As part of the Student Involvement Team, the employee is expected to support functions of the Center for Student Involvement, with specific assignments to include:

  • Advisement of the Wildcat Events Board

  • Advisement of the Campus Funding Board

  • Serve as the administrative point person to all student organizations and clubs.

  • Ensure that spending and distribution of SGU funds is appropriate and follows all state, SUNY and SUNY Poly policies, procedures and requirements.

  • Planning and execution of the Student Involvement Fair at the start of each semester. Partner with the Director of Career Services to seamlessly integrate the event with a Job Fair.

  • Event management including approving room reservations, serving as the liaison to facilities for event set up, reviewing and approving event details and event marketing and providing on-site support of events and facilities and equipment when appropriate.

  • Organization and club advisor training, training material accuracy, and maintenance of records of advisor training certification. Ensure that advisors who do not complete training requirements are replaced with an advisor that meets certification requirements.

  • Partner with the Director of Community Standards and Student Involvement to plan and execute Orientation Programs. Hiring and supervising Orientation Leaders. Percentages of work effort below would need to be added)

  • Creating, planning, executing and evaluating diversity, equity and inclusion programming sponsored by Student Involvement; work collaboratively with the CDO on DEI programming.

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • The ability to manage a variety of projects and responsibilities.

  • Experience in diverse populations.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master's degree, preferably in student personnel, with progressive experience in the management and administration of student activities or a student union.
