Day in the life of a Home Health Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP):

  • Patient Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing abilities within their home environment.

  • Individualized Treatment Planning: Develop personalized treatment plans based on assessment results and patient goals. These plans may include targeted interventions to improve speech articulation, language comprehension, cognitive-communication skills, and swallowing function. Tailor therapy approaches to meet each patient's unique needs and preferences.

  • Implementation of Therapy Interventions: Provide skilled speech therapy services using evidence-based techniques and exercises. These interventions may focus on improving speech clarity and fluency, enhancing language skills such as vocabulary and grammar, addressing cognitive-communication deficits, and facilitating safe swallowing abilities.

  • Patient and Family Education: Educate patients, families, and caregivers on effective communication strategies, techniques to support speech and language development, and exercises to maintain or improve swallowing function.

  • Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Team Communication: Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and nurses, to coordinate comprehensive care plans. Participate in team meetings to discuss patient progress, treatment goals, and interdisciplinary approaches to address complex patient needs. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.

Compensation:

  • The pay range for this position is $36.07 - $45.09 / hour. The starting pay rate will be based on years of experience.

  • Daily Pay: Use this free app to access your wages before payday to handle unexpected expenses

  • Mileage Reimbursement at 58.5 cents per mile

Qualifications

Education

Required

  • Masters or better in Speech-Language Pathology

Experience

Required

  • Previous home health or direct patient care experience preferred.

  • Certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or ASHA

  • Graduate of an accredited speech-language pathology master’s program.

  • 2 years: Currently licensed as a Speech Therapist in the state of Iowa

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, valid insurance, and clean driving record

  • Ability to pass a pre-hire background check, pre-employment health assessment, and drug screen
