TITLE:

Community Education Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in management, business administration, education, physical education, or recreation services or a related field. Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa Driver’s license.

Director of Business Services

JOB GOAL:

The job of the Community Education Coordinator is to serve as the primary point of contact for all Community Education Activities within the Urbandale Community School District and is done for the purposes of planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the district’s community education program.

Description of Working Conditions:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and typically involves contact with the students, staff, and the general public; schedules may be irregular involving night and/or weekend meetings and programs; work may also involve exposure to chemicals and heat/cold.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attends meetings, community events, seminars, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information regarding the district’s community educational objectives.

  • Actively participates in the meetings of the Community Education Advisory Board.

  • Creates rules, policies, and marketing material and plans for the Community Education program.

  • Coordinates program components, support needs and materials for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines.

  • Maintains a wide variety of documents, files, and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.

  • Works closely with the Director of Business Services to manage curriculum content for the purpose of conforming to district and state curriculum and/or instructional objectives

  • Performs personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.

  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. annual status report, budgets, billings, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.

  • Procures supplies, equipment, facilities and/or staffing for the purpose of meeting the requirements of the Community Education department.

  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. staff, students, public agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction.

  • Supervises the processing of documents and materials (e.g. payroll, travel requisitions, mileage requisitions, invoices, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.

  • Supervises the Community Education Assistant.

  • Communicates with other school district and city staff members

  • Specifies and recommends maintenance, equipment and supplies for use at District facilities to enhance both the Community Education Program, but also all school programs.

  • Coordinates and manages all external facility requests from initial inquiry through payment and event completion.

  • Responsible for the district’s online facility use management program.

  • Responsible for the administration and management of the district’s logo use guidelines and program.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Business Services.

  • May assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of other District personnel.

Knowledge of recreational staffing and programming in a school / community setting

Knowledge of computer systems and other technical elements used to enhance programming in a recreational program in a school / community setting

Ability to safely use maintenance tools and equipment

Ability to utilize spreadsheet, database and word processing programs and selected job-related software to include websites

Ability to utilize creative computer applications to develop video and still photography

Physical Requirements :

Job requires incumbent to talk/hear, stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, climb/balance, reach with hands and arms, and routinely lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Terms of Employment :

A letter of assignment will be issued as determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation :

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education.
