Tenure-Track or Clinical Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Veterinary Radiation Oncology

51%-100% appointment (12-month basis)

Requirements: The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent, and have achieved ACVR Radiation Oncology board certification or completed residency training with credentials accepted by ACVR. Preference will be given to candidates with ACVR certification, a track record in scholarship, or prior research training.

Duties: The radiation oncology program is rapidly growing and is a part of an integrated oncology service at the University of Illinois\' College of Veterinary Medicine. The radiation therapy team is headed by a highly productive specialist who has achieved excellence in the arenas of comparative research, resident instruction, and the quality practice of cutting-edge diagnostics and cancer therapy for companion animals. Program personnel currently includes one specialist board certified in both medical and radiation oncology, three dedicated technicians, two residents, and one specialty intern.

Upon joining our team, the successful candidate will provide clinical service in veterinary radiation oncology, contribute to clinical instruction of residents, interns, veterinary students, and communicate effectively with clients and primary veterinarians. The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine is looking for an individual with a positive attitude and desire to contribute to an integrated medical, radiation, and surgical oncology service. The ideal candidate will value team dynamics and be willing to expand their skill set to utilize the many technological tools that are available here. The University of Illinois is highly focused on faculty development and will provide support for equipment and training for hard and software to candidates to position a new faculty member for success. Teaching responsibilities will include didactic, small group and laboratory instruction of veterinary and graduate students. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in clinically and scientifically relevant research projects to the extent that their appointment accommodates. Candidates interested in collaborative research will find ample opportunities to partner within our thriving faculty as well as with basic science investigators on our main campus, including successful partners in the Cancer Center at Illinois. A large, comparative oncology laboratory houses graduate students and a dedicated research scientist in our Department. Our veterinarians have been integral in the creation of the new Carle-Illinois College of Medicine- the world\'s first engineering-based college of medicine- leveraging advanced technology to train physician-innovators to deliver better, more compassionate, and accessible care to patients worldwide.

The University of Illinois Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is a full-service facility with specialists in most fields. The busy caseload is well-managed by excellent communication and collaboration among services. On-site services include digital radiography, computed tomography (128 slice Siemens Somatom with gating capabilities), 3T MRI, Dual Energy X-Ray absorptiometry, gait analysis and physical rehabilitation.

The radiation therapy suite includes a dedicated kennel area, radiation therapy planning area, and a mazeless vault with a Veritas bi-sliding rapidly opening door, as well as a Varian TrueBeam 2.5 with a Perfect Pitch (6 degree of freedom) couch, and software includes Eclipse v15 (with 120 leaf high definition multileaf collimator, RapidArc, IMRT, cone-based SRT, and motion management package for gated treatments). Quality assurance is provided through SunNuclear with DoseCheck, PerFRACTION, and transit dose as well as leaf motion confirmation at each treatment. Service contracts are fully negotiated, and a physicist is contracted for monthly and annual QA as well as any other needs. Percent time dedicated to teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical service will be based on the successful candidate\'s appointment title.
