Job Summary

The Electronic Resources Coordinator supports library resources and software serving the member libraries of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries of Illinois (CARLI). In support of I-Share (currently Alma and Primo VE), electronic resources, and other CARLI services, the Electronic Resources Coordinator works with CARLI\'s member library staff as well as other CARLI staff to troubleshoot, support and assist projects, services, and non-routine projects related to electronic resources as well as develop continuing education programs, consortial meetings in support of CARLI\'s strategic plan. This is a full-time civil service position in a University of Illinois System Office unit supporting the CARLI and providing statewide digital/electronic information and database products and services to more than 800,000 students, faculty, and staff in over 120 higher education institutions located throughout Illinois. In support of CARLI\'s mission, the Electronic Resources Coordinator provides technical support, coordination and assistance to participating institutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with I-Share projects relating to electronic resources. Coordinates communication on these projects within the CARLI office, with the CARLI membership, with CARLI service providers as appropriate in consultation with the Associate Director E-Resources and the Senior Director.
  • Maintains awareness of current and emerging standards and technologies related to library systems and electronic resources. Advises the Associate Director of Electronic Resources and Senior Director on new resources and new library management system opportunities.
  • Provides consulting services for CARLI member library staff using I-Share, database brokering and other CARLI services. Serves as front line support for systems that provide mission critical services in Illinois academic libraries.
  • Develops and provides reports, instructional materials, and enhancements to CARLI resources and services that are proactive, data-based, and customer-focused.
  • Prepares policy and procedure documents in consultation with colleagues and advisory groups. Writes and revises documentation and training materials. Assists in keeping the CARLI website, directory and records up to date.
  • Prepares and presents contnuing education programs for consortial member library staff on a variety of subjects and services related to the consortium\'s activities.
  • Serves as a communication liaison between CARLI technical staff, CARLI member library staff, and as appropriate, support staff of CARLI electronic resource vendors.
  • Serves as a CARLI staff liaison to various CARLI committees. Arranges meetings, maintain committee minutes & reports webpages, prepares background materials, advises committee members on consortial goals, procedures, plans, and projects.
  • Performs other duties appropriate for the position of Electronic Resources Coordinator as determined by the Associate Director of E-Resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree.
  • Two years in education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position.
  • (Note: Master\'s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • ALA accredited master\'s degree in library and information science or related field.
  • Experience in a consortial li rary resource sharing environment.
  • Experience with Alma/Primo VE.
  • Experience with library vendor relationships, products and services.
  • Experience providing library instruction to users with diverse background and skill levels.
  • Experience writing reports.
  • Experience in performing marketing, public relations, and communications functions.

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to develop and maintain effective work relationships.

  • Knowledge of the MARC formats, cataloging practices and bibliographic standards.
