JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Buildings and Maintenance Services, a department within the Office of Physical Plant (https://opp.psu.edu) (OPP) at Penn State University, is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Skilled Trades Supervisor in a unionized environment. This position is responsible for an Area Shop with a crew of approximately 15 technicians comprised of Electricians, HVAC technicians, Plumbers, and Maintenance Technicians that maintain a portion of University Park during the first shift.

Primary duties include:

  • Lead, motivate, and maximize the productive efficiency of the crew; including assignment of work, verification of time spent on tasks, reviewing time cards, adjusting crew size by hiring and the use of temporary resources, use of the Physical Plant’s Facility Asset Management System, collaborating with the Office of Physical Plant’s Planning and Scheduling department, providing appropriate training, assisting technical service employees with acquiring the required tools and equipment

  • Ensure quality and customer satisfaction by reviewing the planned work, conducting site visits to review work in progress, and discussing the planned and completed work with customers

  • Provide leadership to the crew by monitoring the work environment and making the appropriate adjustments, and by identifying and capturing opportunities to improve or expand services

  • Advocate for safety by completing safety inspections, conducting accident investigations, identify and resolve gaps in the crew safety plan

  • Accomplish the required administrative tasks including responding to messages and requests, documenting activities, and responding to discipline issues

The supervisor will need knowledge of the tools, skills, and techniques required to complete facility maintenance. The Supervisor manages the work to ensure value to customers while balancing multiple budgets.

Education and experience:

Minimally requires an associate’s degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience managing a unionized workforce is preferred, however, not required.

Background check:

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$68,200.00 - $102,300.00
