JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State University Park Housing is searching for a full time  Residence Hall Maintenance Worker  to join their team. Duties include: Operate various types of scrubbing, buffing and shampooing equipment such as floor maintenance machines, shampooing equipment and hand tools as required Clean, seal, wax and polish all types of surfaces, materials, furnishings and fixtures in area utilizing scaffolding, ladders, etc. and materials such as detergents, disinfectants, waxes, sealers, etc. As directed, perform minor maintenance such as adjust doors, replace fire exit and alarm glass Remove and replace doors and take to and from the receiving or storage areas Replace switch plates, lamp cords, plugs and fuses Adjust window or door glides, rollers, closers and doorknobs Check, tighten or replace screws and fasteners on furnishings and equipment Replace furniture glides Lubricate and exchange hinges, latches and key cores Remove and replace grilles, louvers, convector covers, etc. Perform minor re-gluing Remove and dispose of all trash and debris from building including exterior receptacles and place in dumpster using motor vehicle as necessary Pick up litter outside buildings Clean window wells, roof drains, dryer vents and lint collecting areas Relamp high-level areas, wash ceilings and walls, replace ceiling tiles, floor tiles and stair treads as needed using high ladders, scaffolds, lifts and wall and window washing equipment such as pressure washer as necessary Shovel snow and chop ice; spread cinders, sand and other anti-skid materials outside building and grounds using tools such as snow blower, shovel and scraper Assist various tradespeople in handling materials for repairs, construction, alteration of buildings and grounds Lift out windows for cleaning and replace Use window-washing equipment to wash outside windows Using hand tools such as screwdriver, hammer and pliers, etc., replace mirrors and bulletin boards, place thermal windows in frames, remove, repair and replace screens as needed Remove and/or tighten and replace chair seats and backs Remove, adjust and replace drapery rods, venetian blinds and glides, replace springs on beds and mattress ties Receive, move, sort, store and deliver equipment, furnishings, linen and operational supplies; open cartons, move trunks, suitcases and other items to and from student rooms or storage areas as requested Assemble and disassemble furniture Check fire extinguisher gauges and pull pins Remove and replace deficient extinguishers as needed Replace fire exit and alarm glass and pull-station covers Open drains with plunger or small drain snake Close windows, lock and unlock buildings as directed Turn on and turn off lights as appropriate Keep equipment clean, polished and properly sorted Adjust, lubricate and replace wheels on handcarts Report maintenance problems, unusual conditions, damages and losses to the supervisor Turn in found items immediately to the supervisor Operate motor vehicle to transport supplies, equipment, appliances, trash, etc. as needed between various locations

Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and d vices in which interpretation is not required. Over 1 up to 3 months of effective experience.

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.

Work Schedule:Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Sunday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Days Off:Friday, Saturday

This position is part of the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 8 and has a starting hourly wage of $17.28.
