JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking Penn State students to fill the position of Program Instructor at Stone Valley Recreation Area.

Program Instructors provide memorable outdoor recreation programming; Greet customers and provide exceptional customer service. Program instructors are responsible for delivering outdoor recreation programs within the recreation area including but not limited to: Paddling lessons; guided hikes; and other activities. Program Instructors also have excellent interpersonal skills, maintain program equipment, and must attend monthly staff meetings. Program Instructors may also design new programs for participants. Must be a team player, willing to cover or trade shifts when necessary. Work hours vary including days, evenings, and weekends. CPR/First Aid/AED certification required or ability to obtain within one month of hire. Classes are offered through Campus Recreation on a regular basis. Successful completion of Paddle Sports Safety Course required for all staff instructing paddle sport programs. Must be able to obtain the 3 publicly available clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and FBI Criminal Background Check. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation. Must have access to a reliable form of transportation. Positions are mostly seasonal in nature with the primary hours available from mid-March through mid-November. Hiring preference will be given to Penn State University students and we build your work schedule around your class schedule.

Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellbeing, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatic Programs, Fitness and Wellbeing Programs, Club Sports, and Intramural Sports.
