JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We are searching for a Mechanical Testing Engineer to join our Drivetrain Technology Center of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. This position will be responsible for carrying out technical assignments per program objectives, under the Principal Investigator's direction.
ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.
Responsibilities include:
Contribute to fatigue performance and gear tests
Data acquisition
Equipment maintenance
Failure analyses
Contribute data for use in reports and proposals
Metallurgical characterization
This position will be filled at multiple levels, depending on the successful candidate's education level and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelors' Degree Engineering or Science discipline for the professional level. Additional education and/or experience is required for higher level positions. A Masters' degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering preferred.
Additional responsibilities for the intermediate professional level include:
Initiate or contribute data analysis for use in technical reports
Mentor and or train lower level employees and students
Conduct fatigue performance and gear tests
Additional responsibilities for the advanced professional level include:
Supervise engineering support assistants and students.
Contribute to proposals
Manage Mechanical Testing projects
Required Experience includes:
Operation and maintenance of gear fatigue test machines and conducting fatigue tests
Metallurgical failure analyses
Engineering analysis using Matlab, LabView and/or similar codes

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$76,700.00 - $164,000.00
