JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Dr. Yogasudha Veturi in the Department of Biobehavioral Health at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applicants for a Biostatistician/Programmer . The final candidate will collaborate with research teams to develop and evaluate data analysis plans for healthcare research studies using publicly available consortia data (including multi-omics, neuroimaging, and electronic health records); will analyze and interpret biological/genomic and health science data; will recommend statistical methodologies, and software specifications; will analyze, interpret, and create data representations using R/Python; and will integrate emerging technologies into research recommendations. They will also develop/update statistical software packages in R/Python as necessary for lead or collaborative projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with investigators, physicians, and graduate students to design and implement a statistical analysis plan based on study objectives and research needs in clinical and health science research settings.

  • Consult and advise researchers on study design, statistical analysis strategies, determining statistical power, and sample size.

  • Do quality control on big databases (e.g., genomic/transcriptomic/EHR).

  • Provide statistical expertise in the interpretation of experimental results; integrate and perform novel and complex statistical methodologies and advanced models into protocols (such as generalized mixed models and Bayesian analysis); analyze data using statistical software.

  • Have and maintain knowledge of bioinformatics/statistical software packages; develop, test, debug, implement, modify, and evaluate new or existing statistical software programs in support of research projects.

  • Have experience working with whole genome sequencing data (preferred).

  • Write specifications for files, validation checks, tables, and calculations used to collect and analyze data from a variety of sources.

  • Prepare visual representations and displays of statistical results for inclusion in reports, presentations, scholarly publications, and grant applications; create programming specifications for analysis datasets, tables, listings, and figures.

  • Author statistic portions of abstracts, manuscripts, and final reports.

This is a limited-term staff position, funded for one year from the date of hire, with the possibility of renewal.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's Degree ( Master's Degree preferred) plus one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to degrees in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, data science, bioinformatics, or related fields.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$56,200.00 - $81,500.00
