JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University Relationship Violence, Outreach, Intervention, and Community Education Center (R/VOICE) (https://studentaffairs.psu.edu/r-voice) invites applications for the Assistant/Associate Director position.

With a history and presence on campus for 40 years, Penn State’s Relationship Violence, Outreach, Intervention, and Community Education Center (R/VOICE) supports students who have been impacted by sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, harassment, and other campus climate issues. R/VOICE staff provide education, advocacy, referrals, and crisis intervention/support. All services provided to our student communities are free and confidential. The Center also leads prevention education efforts across the University community offering education on gender-based issues, bystander intervention, and trauma-informed care.

The Assistant/Associate Director position oversees and manages all power-based personal violence prevention programming and related educational efforts. Serving as a subject matter expert on power-based personal violence, the Assistant/Associate Director leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative educational programs and workshops by applying expertise in instructional design, curriculum development, and leadership strategies that enhance prescribed learning outcomes and foster an inclusive educational environment. The Assistant/Associate Director position reports to the Director of the Center.

Job Responsibilities:

Planning, Organizing, and Implementing:

  • Research, develop, implement, and facilitate innovative student-centered programming, outreach, and education on power-based personal violence including sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, sexual and gender-based harassment, the support of survivors through trauma-informed practices, bystander intervention, and other campus climate concerns that are theory-driven and evidenced-based

  • Identify and introduce evidence-based programs from outside organizations and leaders in the field of sexual violence and relationship violence prevention, bystander intervention, and related topics

  • As a subject matter expert on power-based personal violence and concerns of prevention, education, and survivor advocacy, serve as a resource to other units and offices throughout the University

  • Conduct capacity-building for colleagues in other student-centric functional areas across Penn State campuses to ensure that deeper awareness of and greater sensitivity to power-based personal violence and prevention strategies are continually reflected through their work

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement large-scale social norm campaigns, events, and unit or university-wide programming as needed

Supervising, Supporting, Educating, and Facilitating:

  • Supervise the Program Coordinator for Outreach and Prevention and the Program Coordinator for Peer Education and Men’s Engagement, providing support and guidance on programming, outreach, peer education, and broader education efforts

  • Provide support to Program Coordinators on planning, marketing, and hosting awareness events, social programs, and guest speaker engagements

  • Provide guidance, support, and training opportunities to Program Coordinators and student staff who provide educational outreach and oversight of peer education

  • Facilitate programs, educational offerings, events, and outreach in conjunction with the Program Coordinators to the University community and beyond as appropriate

  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices for peer-to-peer based education regarding issues in college-specific populations and serve as a direct resource on these practices

  • Create power points, facilitation manuals, and other resources necessary for effective program and workshop facilitation

  • Serve as liaison to faculty and staff, providing appropriate professional development and training to enhance their responses and support of victim-survivors and other marginalized students within their programs and offices

  • Serve as liaison to Commonwealth campus faculty and staff to provide support and guidance on their campus outreach, programming, and events, while striving to provide a unifying messaging regarding prevention efforts across the Commonwealth

  • Partner with staff and units across the University community to develop innovative strategies that address systematic forms of exclusion and marginalization in higher education which impede access, or deny success and are interconnected with power-based personal violence

Assessment:

  • Conduct research and benchmarking activities to identify emerging trends and best practices in the field of prevention, education, and advocacy

  • Oversee program assessment and evaluation for R/Voice programs and initiatives, including the development of assessment tools and analyzing and interpreting data to inform future services and programs

  • Conduct needs-based evaluations for victim-survivors and their barriers to success, providing recommendations for new programs and policy changes to ensure retention and success

  • Continuously assess the needs of Penn State students and marginalized and specialized populations to assist in the creation of evidence-based support and education programs

Administration and Additional Oversight:

  • Provide budgetary support, including overseeing planning, tracking, and reporting for student fee expenditures for R/VOICE

  • Identify current and potential funding sources, as well as prepare grant proposals to enhance the capacity of center programming

  • Assist the Director in the development of new policies and procedures to enhance the University response to victim-survivors while adhering to external regulations and other guidelines

  • Assist the Director and Survivor Advocate in responding to urgent requests from those visiting the Center, as needed, providing emotional support, advocacy, and resource referrals for students

  • Serves on various committees, coalitions, and entities as appropriate

  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance requirements under the Clery Act, Title IX, and child abuse and assist staff and student educators in responding to student disclosures and supporting their own compliance requirements

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop evidence-based, theory-informed workshop/training curricula on sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, harassment, and other campus climate issues

  • Experience in program development, assessment, and evaluation for power-based personal violence prevention and other inter-related climate issues

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the challenges facing students, staff, and faculty from historically underrepresented communities, including people with disabilities, people of color, queer, transgender, gender non-conforming, first-generation, low-income, international, immigrant, undocumented, tribal and Indigenous communities

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of equity-informed principles and practices working with students and colleagues

  • Understanding and application of bystander intervention approaches and rationale

  • Proven results in collaboration and community building with campus and community partners, growing partnerships and capacity

  • Ability to foster collegiality, develop relationships, and build capacity for equity and inclusion work across constituent groups on campus

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, and organizational skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Must be reliable and able to work evenings and weekends as needed to fulfill the mission of the position

  • Able to meet multiple deadlines and demonstrate job responsibilities

Education & Experience:

  • Typically requires a master’s degree in higher education or a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Experience working with college students and delivering programs utilizing remote and hybrid technology is a plus

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $74,000.00
