JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Eberly College of Science, Department of Physics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking an Assistant ResearchProfessorwith exceptionalresearchpotential to start in the fall of 2025. Research will be related to direct probes of physics beyond the Standard Model, using analytical and computational approaches. In particular, the assistant research professor will work to bridge the gap between particle theory and computational materials science with the goal of developing novel dark matter detection techniques. Ideal candidates will have experience in BSM phenomenology as well as computational materials modeling. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Development of novel direct detection methods
Sub-GeV dark matter searches
Materials modeling/electronic structure calculations
BSM phenomenology
Machine Learning/Deep Learning techniques
The successful applicant will join Dr. Carlos Blanco's research group with significant academic freedom to pursue independent research directions. They will work closely with students and postdocs in the physics and astronomy departments, and will have access to the resources and expertise of the Materials Research Institute (MRI) and the Institute of Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS).
