NBC Universal Sr Network Engineer in Universal City, California

Global Network and Distribution (GND) operations team is responsible for maintaining NBCU’s corporate and broadcast network. We are looking for an engineer who has a broad spectrum of knowledge with all networking technologies. Being in operations team needs understanding of all parts of network. Also includes reacting to alerts, working with vendors and clients to resolve issues, working with other network teams such as engineering, architects, automation teams to understand the changing network and troubleshooting problems. We maintain a 24X7 on call rotation.

This gives the opportunity to collaborate not just with engineering and automation team who are part of GND but also with a wide range of clients who work on core NBCU business.

Basic Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering. CCNP equivalent.

  • Responsible for responding to service requests and incidents.

  • Experience and understanding of Routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, redistribution, mpBGP, eVPN), QoS, firewalls, NAT, DMZ.

  • Able to troubleshoot network issues spanning multiple network technologies like routing / switching, firewall.

  • Able to work with vendors to troubleshoot issues and find root cause.

  • Ready to be part of on-call rotation. Ready to work off-hours with 3-5 days of notice.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Understanding of Software Defined products, respective alert and monitoring.

  • Cisco ACI, Arista, VxLAN, Python or Ansible scripting – good to have.

  • Able to collaborate with automation and reliability team to fine tune alerting and monitoring.

  • Experience with AAA (Authentication / Authorization / Accounting) software (ISE/ClearPass)

  • Knowledge of WPA2/WPA3 Enterprise & PSK, RADIUS and 802.1X and PKI concepts

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
