The Application Engineer’s role is to define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software applications in support of the achievement of business requirements. This includes testing, analyzing and supporting software programs and applications. The Application Engineer will also research, design, document, and modify software specifications throughout the production life cycle.

The Application Engineer will serve as a key contact with the user community for solving business issues and for designing, developing and implementing new business initiatives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document existing software solutions.

  • Provide a system support role for day-to-day systems operations.

  • Develop detailed test plans & conduct system testing.

  • Collaborate with other UPR IT teams as needed to support the business requirements.

  • Define and manage small projects, timelines, deliverables and communication to the business.

  • Provide regular status reporting

  • Provide support for various hardware and software upgrades.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree required from a four-year college or university is required; majors in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

  • 2-4 years of work experience in an IT support function

  • Experience supporting a large POS application

  • Willingness to travel and or work weekends with short notice; Support during non-business hours as needed.

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Desired Characteristics

  • Excellent understanding of SQL database and query best practices. Including triggers, stored procedures, SQL jobs, SSIS, and reporting using SSRS

  • Extensive relational database and operating systems experience with Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Windows Server 2008-2016 Administration Experience (review and troubleshoot logs, patching, access control, user access reviews, and IIS)

  • Experience with IT Service Management Tools (ServiceNow or Jira)

  • Able to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary teams

  • Hospitality industry experience preferred

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong technical/analytical skills

  • Results oriented with a history of problem resolution and prevention

  • Effectively handle sensitive and confidential matter
