Job Overview

Cambrex is looking for an ambitious and energetic Business Development Director to play a pivotal role in driving growth of our Drug Substance CDMO business. This position involves identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining strong client relationships, and developing strategic plans to achieves sales targets and expand our market presence. Position will cover US Pacific West Coast territory.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Business Development / Sales Professional will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Aggressively pursue development, technical transfer, and commercial manufacturing opportunities for drug substance manufacturing

  • Build strong, long-term client relationships, forging new business partnerships, nurturing and qualifying leads, and maintaining high visibility within networking and trade organizations within the defined territory.

  • Conduct thorough market research to identify potential clients and new business opportunities.

  • Understand industry and customer needs and actively contribute to provide solutions that will generate value for the customer.

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including marketing, site leadership, R&D, and production, to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction.

  • Lead the initiative to introduce new projects and business opportunities pursuant to Cambrex´s overall business strategy both at existing and new accounts.

  • Be a trustworthy and interactive team member who is willing to share and expand on good ideas.

  • Represent the company at customer visits, industry events, conferences, and trade shows to promote our services and capabilities.

  • Enter and maintain customer data within CRM (Salesforce) for client management and forecasting.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, energetic and accountable in accomplishing the objectives of the business

  • Excellent prospecting skills with the ability to identify and qualify potential clients through various methods such as cold calling, networking, and social media outreach.

  • Deep understanding of the market, including trends, competitors, and customer needs to effectively target and approach potential clients.

  • High level of persistence, demonstrating tenacity and resilience in the face of rejection, continuously following up with leads and exploring new avenues to secure meetings and close deals.

  • Ability to inspire customer confidence, promote and develop strong client to business relationships and become the provider of choice for existing and new clients.

  • Skilled in negotiating terms and conditions to reach mutually beneficial agreements with clients.

  • Ability to effectively engage in discussions with procurement, technical, chemical and pharmaceutical scientists in order to generate business opportunities.

  • Effective time management, good organization skills effective use of resources and assessment of priorities to opportunities.

  • Strong relationship building skills across multiple disciplines (technical, commercial and management).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate internally and externally to the organization with the confidence necessary to influence sales and customer decisions.

  • An understanding of cGMP manufacturing requirements as well as regulatory and environmental issues relevant for the pharmaceutical industry.

  • A solid team player who can maintain cohesiveness between the customer, R&D and Manufacturing and is comfortable in a project centered organization.

  • The ability to work effectively within a multicultural environment.

  • A high level of energy, creativity, and personal motivation.

  • The determination and persistence to build a business.

Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related life-science degree is required. MBA or advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in business development, with proven track record in selling CDMO services. Experience in API, fine chemicals, and custom technologies is desired. Commercial experience in pharmaceutical or related industry is preferred.

    Daily work will be performed in home office setting. Position requires visual acuity, talking and fingering. Walking and Standing are required occasionally. Remote position. 35-50% Travel is required for this role.
