Under the direction of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the primary responsibilities include the repair and maintenance of City owned vehicles, primarily automotive and light trucks. Duties include diagnosis and repair of engines, steering, suspension, brakes and other systems. Additional duties include routine services such as fluid checks and oil changes; minor and major repairs of heating/air conditioning, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Technicians are encouraged to participate in on-going manufacturing training and education programs to stay current and abreast of changing technology. The position requires the ability to use standard office computer programs and sufficient physical condition to meet the demands of the job which include lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds and working both inside and in outside weather conditions. Additionally, the role requires the ability to walk up and down stairs. Adherence to organizational values and a commitment to teamwork is a must.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on City-owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair brakes, heating systems, steering, hydraulic systems, gas and diesel engines, and transmissions.
  • Maintain equipment and keep detailed records of repairs, maintenance, and service calls.
  • Operate tools and equipment like hand tools, welders, and diagnostic computers.
  • Respond to questions from citizens and City employees in a professional manner.
  • Follow safety protocols and City policies in all tasks.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of mechanical practices and techniques on various equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues.
  • Familiarity with using tools, diagnostic equipment, and computers for vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency (required).
  • Valid Idaho Drivers License (required).
  • Demonstrated experience as a maintenance/repair technician, five years minimum preferred.
  • Industry certifications preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Final candidates will be required to successfully complete a background check, provide professional job references, and pass a pre-employment drug screening as a condition of hire.
