Under the direction of and in close collaboration with the Dean of Nursing, the successful adjunct faculty member will serve Tuskegee University by teaching a lecture and/or clinical laboratory courses to ensure students learn and successfully complete outcomes. The Nursing Adjunct creates an environment of active student learning while engaging in scholarly activity and service in accordance with the mission and goals of the department and university.
Essential Job Duties
Administrative: Assume and fulfills administrative responsibilities commensurate with the position title by:
- Counseling student in accordance with students learning needs
- Ensure that course objectives and content are written and outlined in keeping with the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Nursing
- Evaluate the course to determine if goals and objectives are being met
- Evaluate clinical learning experiences and facilities and making recommendations to Course Coordinator and Department Head
- Participate in the development, implementation and completion to clinical evaluation forms
- Recognize and inform the Course Coordinator of exiting or potential problems relating to the operations of the nursing program
- Participate in the programs of self-development, by attending appropriate workshops, seminars, etc.
- Serve on School committees and participating in committee activities as designed
Instructional: Participates in Planning and implementation of a sound educational program an directs learning activities by:
- Assist in the development of behavioral objectives for the course, which are measurable, and writing objectives for the units of instructions
- Utilize varied teaching strategies
- Assist students in applying nursing theories and principles to the practices of nursing
- Receive recommended media for utilizing in the course, including books for the library and other multi-media
- Conduct formal classes and supervision clinical experiences as assigned
- Assist in the selection of methods and tools to evaluate learners achievement, evaluation by learners and teaching team
- Stimulate students to be inquisitive and seek additional experience on their own
- Use knowledge gains from students and peer evaluating in planning and implementing subsequent learning experience
- Serve as a role model for students in the professional, social and civic arena
Community Relations: Establishes and maintains effective relationships with other faculty, students, affiliating agencies and the community by:
- Maintain membership and participate in professional organizations
- Serve as a nurse consultant for local health agencies as appropriate and possible
- Assist with and participate in local health agencies in -service programs as appropriate and possible
- Participate in overall academic affairs and programs of the total University as indicated
- Serve on inter-agency committees when requested and as feasible
- Provide direct health care to clients, which is unrelated to student clinical learning experience
- Attempt to influence political decisions that affect nursing on the local level
Research and Investigations: Assume a professional and responsible role in the area of research by:
- Assist the designing, conducting, evaluating and publishing of research and/or studies relating to health care and /or the nursing profession
- Share and utilize investigation findings for the improvement of the teaching-learning process
- Utilize opportunities to increase own knowledge by attending research symposia, conferences, classes, etc.
- Contribute to professional publications and making scholarly presentations for civic groups when reque ted
- Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of science degree in nursing or masters degree in clinical specialty is required
- An earned doctoral degree is preferred
- Minimum of two years of general nursing experience
- Must hold a current unencumbered Alabama Registered Nurse license
