REPORTING TO: Lab Calibration Supervisor

LOCATION: Tulare, CA

The Calibration Technician is responsible for multiple activities that provides technical assistance to the company where needed; including routine testing (Butterfat using Gerber, solids using a moisture oven, and protein using the Kjeltec.) Other functions in this role include: daily equipment monitoring; preventative maintenance; completing calibrations; completing evaluations; analyzing raw materials, products, assisting in training needs and processes; providing facilities support for the shipment of quality products.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Performs daily calibration for all equipment in the plant including lab.

  • Manages the Lactoscopes monitoring program.

  • Ability to maintain standard reference testing as required by Lactalis Standards.

  • Ability to assign Cecalaits to lab technicians and properly communicate expectations.

  • Build corrective actions on any deviations found during Cecalaits testing.

  • Coordinates and completes maintenance on all laboratory equipment including, PM’s, and calibrations.

  • Performs raw material chemistry, and physical analyses.

  • Does first-level investigation for anomalies in test results.

  • Evaluates sample results in real-time to determine if results fall within the expected range and troubleshoot testing if not.

  • Maintains inventory for the lab, place orders if below min/max, and alerts supervisor if inventory runs low.

  • Ability to research items with different vendors and find best pricing.

  • Ability to request annual PM service for all Quality maintained instruments.

  • Collects, analyzes, and evaluates samples from each step of production and approves for use.

  • Gathers data regarding the status of production and maintains accurate records.

  • Generates reports as needed to analyze data (example: dairy.com, profoss, Lactoscopes, ect…)

  • Supports operations with calibrations of testing equipment, Metal detector, and X-ray units.

  • Train lab technicians when new lab equipment is installed

  • Ability to prioritize projects and leadership delegated tasks.

  • Ability to understand urgent needs and the importance of time management.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership

Requirements

Qualified applicants will contribute the following:

Will be required to perform a Skills Test.

  • Three to five years’ experience in a food lab performing equipment calibration, analytical testing/ quality evaluation in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficiency as a Lab Tech

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization, including the ability to present business information in a group setting.

  • Knowledge of GLP and ISO is strongly preffered .

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints.

  • Ability to operate in a team environment.

  • Ability to adapt in a changing work environment.

  • Ability to work schedule, overtime, and weekends as needed.
