Radiation Treatments have a wide range in difficulty from Prostate & Breast, to Head and Neck, Lung, SRS, SBRT, T&O, TBI's, Anesthesia and Pediatrics. As well as, In Patient's brought over by ambulance!

4- Truebeams Equipped with Vision RT (known as OSMS)

2- CT Simulators

1- HDR Vault/Suite

7- Radiation Oncologists

15- Radiation Therapists

POSITION SUMMARY

This position performs prescribed planned course of radiation therapy as directed by following department/facility policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols and in accordance with standards of professional radiation therapy practice. Performs needed assessment, care and treatment planning for patient population. This position works to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the assigned department, including day-to-day administration of non-physician staff and operations. This person must be proficient with all modalities including simulation and treatment machines applicable to the clinic.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Delivers radiation treatment according to written prescription and treatment plan. Ensures safety in patient care through the consistent practice of departmental procedures for treatment administration. Treatment delivery includes, but is not limited to identifying correct patient, escorting patient to treatment room, assisting patient onto the treatment table, positioning patient for treatment, delivering radiation from the control room and assisting the patient in exiting the treatment room.

  2. Assures the quality of treatment delivery through the complete and accurate documentation of treatment records. Recognizes deviation from prescribed treatment delivery and reports all deviations to the appropriate department. Recommends and implements any necessary corrective action.

  3. Mentors and trains new staff, ensuring competencies are completed within 90 days of hire date. Provides guidance and resources for learning policies required by Banner and affiliated parties.

  4. Maintains the daily treatment schedule and ensures billing is accurate and complete at the end of each workday. Takes corrective action according to billing department instruction.

  5. Assists with the assessment and communication of equipment service issues and works with management and the vendor to ensure a resolution has been reached.

  6. Uses critical thinking in planning and decision-making while ensuring a positive working environment exists to support the staff's ability to meet patient needs.

  7. Supports change and participates in the development, interpretation, implementation and evaluation of goals/objectives, Standards of Practice, and quality management activities within the clinical service line. Reviews staff adherence to department quality assurance practices and identifies clinical environmental needs and appropriate follow-up action to address them.

  8. This position will require interim coverage when the clinic manager is off site.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a strong knowledge of clinical care as normally obtained through an Associate’s degree in Radiation Oncology or related field.

Requires national certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and licensure by the state regulatory agency if applicable. Employees working in Arizona must have current Medical Radiologic Technical Board of Examiners (MRTBE) Certification. BLS certification required.

Must be knowledgeable of clinical techniques, applications, and equipment relative to the area of work as demonstrated through 3-5 years of experience in Radiation Therapy.

Must be proficient on all treatment machines including simulation. Must demonstrate effective communication skills and human relations skills including being respectful and courteous to patients and colleagues. Promotes and rewards teamwork and inclusiveness and sensitive to the concerns of patients and colleagues. In addition, must model banner values and safety behaviors.

Employees working at Banner MD Anderson on the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. This is a requirement of the Whole Family Counseling Program held at this specific facility.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Oncology or related field preferred.

2+ years of lead responsibilities experience preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
