Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines on hardware and software designs including the evaluation and implementation of new components and analytical methods

  • Execute test plans using various analytical instrumentation and sensitive measuring equipment and constructing test fixtures as necessary

  • Analyze data using sound statistical and engineering principles, summarize results, author quality test reports, and communicate conclusions effectively

  • Create and maintain design documentation including models, calculations, process flow diagrams, and system/sub-system operations

  • Effectively communicate the status and schedule of assigned activities to project and department managers

  • Lead the chemical engineering efforts as part of a cross functional team on new and existing instrumentation by engaging in project scoping efforts, coordinating activities and updates from other project team chemical engineers, and identifying risk mitigation options to achieve project goals

  • Mentor junior team members by providing training, technical guidance, and subject matter expertise

  • Provide technical guidance to other departments to support departmental or business initiatives

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in applying analytical instruments to target markets, with a focus on meeting product objectives

  • Proficiency in translating user requirements into actionable design specifications, developing innovative solutions, and managing technical risks

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including design and assembly of test fixtures, and troubleshooting complex analytical instrumentation

  • Advanced laboratory skills, including precise pipetting, safe chemical handling, and accurate solution preparation

  • Mastery of Google Suite and Microsoft applications, with proven ability to perform statistical analyses using Excel, JMP, or similar tools

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating adaptability in collaborating with diverse technical teams both on-site and remotely

  • Proficient in interpreting technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specification sheets, vendor literature, and equipment manuals

  • Expertise in selecting components and equipment based on design criteria, chemical compatibility, operating environment, and reliability requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, developing cutting-edge analytical techniques and implementing breakthrough improvements to existing methods

  • Meticulous documentation skills, adhering to established procedures for recording innovative ideas, methodologies, and experimental data to support patent filings

  • Proficiency in evaluating intellectual property landscapes through comprehensive searches of patent databases and scientific literature

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, or chemistry with analytical chemistry emphasis

  • 3+ years of experience in product design and development of measurement devices, analytical instrumentation, or medical devices

Preferred:

  • Understanding of water chemistry and established methods for measuring contaminants in water matrices

  • Knowledge of water treatment processes and regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical water production and analysis

  • Knowledge of water treatment processes for municipal and semiconductor grade water production

  • Working knowledge of LabVIEW programming

  • Compensation - The salary range is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $80,000 - $100,000 annually
