Position Summary
As an Automation Engineer I, you will develop and improve operations by studying current processes/systems and implementing best-practice technological solutions. You will have the opportunity to work on small to large scale projects, including: wiring control systems and sensors, software development/configurations, SCADA development, creating diagrams, PLC/LabView systems, and other technical areas.
Responsibilities
Research, design, develop, test, commission, document, and sustain automation solutions
Work hands-on with electronics, sensors, equipment, and software
Integrate automation systems with existing hardware and software, ensuring seamless operation
Work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective automation solutions
Provide scope, qualification, resource, and budget estimates for automation projects
Create and maintain detailed documentation for all automation processes and systems
Build an understanding of manufacturing processes
Provide ongoing maintenance and technical support, troubleshooting issues as they arise
Investigate industry best practices and explore the capabilities of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)
Interact with vendors to ensure potential systems meet site requirements
Train end users (if any) on new or improved processes
Communicate with colleagues / analyze current systems to identify opportunities for improvement
Foster a positive safety culture in which no one gets hurt
Support the Automation & Software Group with all other required technical needs
Automation Includes - assembly machines/fixtures, CNC machines, robots, software, and test equipment, as well as any other equipment or software identified by A&SG leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Bachelor\'s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or similar field
Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems
Proficiency with electrical lab equipment
Hands-on experience with wiring, soldering, electrical circuit design, and integration
Proficiency in programming languages (LabVIEW, Java, JavaScript, Python, SQL, PLC)
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies
Must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and have exceptional organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Comfortable working in a manufacturing shop setting
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
Previous internships or experience in automation projects or related fields are highly desirable
Experience with programmable logic controller (PLC) programming and troubleshooting
LabVIEW experience and proficiency
Understanding of SCADA systems
Proficiency in wiring electrical components and circuits, including soldering skills for reliable connections
Ex erience in hydraulic testing environments
Experience designing and analyzing control systems
Understanding of digital and analog signal processing
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems (e.g. lean manufacturing, Six Sigma)
Experience working with high-voltage systems
