Hiring Range: \$54,863 - \$65,836 Annually

Full Range: \$54,863 - \$76,809 Annually

This position with rotating days to include weekends, and both day and evening hours, is in the Recreation Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. The Aquatics Program Manager will oversee the lifeguard teams and programs at the eight (8) summer seasonal pools and one (1) year-round aquatic facility.Under the general direction of the Recreation Superintendent, in this role you will establish goals and objectives, and plan, develop, implement, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate all aquatic programs and opportunities at each aquatic facility. This position is also responsible for the recruitment, certification, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of the Pima County Lifeguard team.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the recruitment, certification, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of aquatic staff;

  • Develops, plans, markets, registers, organizes, coordinates, and administers assigned aquatic program activities; assists the Recreation Superintendent in the development, execution, and evaluation of assigned aquatic program goals and objectives;

  • Manages the day-to-day aquatic activities year-round including safety protocols at each assigned aquatic facility;

  • Responsible for the certified training of swim lesson instructor trainers and lifeguard instructors; supervises the lifeguard training team for all classes taught; manages Pima County authorized provider agreements ensuring compliant certification;

  • Participates in and teaches aquatic and safety certification trainings, as necessary;

  • Supervises the safety of each aquatic facility which includes coordinating staff trainings and compliance with local and state health code regulations for a public swimming pool;

  • Represents the organization at various community events, aquatic awareness activities, meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new aquatic programs and/or policies;

  • Assists the Recreation Superintendent in managing relationships with internal/external aquatic partnerships, stakeholders, and customer service;

  • Assists in the development of the aquatics budget and supervises the monitoring and administration of aquatic funds, the collection of revenue at each assigned aquatic facility; provides cost projections, revenue reports, statistical reports, and maintains aquatic unit records retention as necessary;

  • Monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies for each assigned aquatic facility and/or program.

\ Minimum Qualifications:

\ Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public recreation administration, business management or a related field as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment, AND three (3) year of experience in the field of aquatics with increasing responsibility, which includes a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

\ OR:

\ Five (5) years relevant experience (or combination of education and work experience) in the field of aquatics with increasing responsibility, which includes a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
