Burrell Behavioral Health Domestic Violence Advocate in Troy, Missouri

Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Domestic Violence (DV) Advocate is tasked with offering direct and supportive assistance to survivors in shelter or outreach settings; including monitoring, crisis intervention, supervision, safety measures, and leading educational/support groups. It is important for the Domestic Violence (DV) Advocate to employ a trauma-informed approach to effectively support survivors in alignment with the standards of the shelter and outreach programs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Respond to client needs in the shelter.

  • Provide case management assistance to clients.

  • Complete intakes within the manner and time frame given by designee.

  • Create and facilitate Psycho-educational groups, classes and house meetings.

  • Answer 24-hour hotline and provide crisis support and advocacy as needed.

  • Record calls in Phone Log book.

  • Chart all pertinent information including client interactions and document any noted progress toward achieving goals.

  • Coordinate transportation and hotel services for victims when needed.

  • Ensure facilities are ready for new clients.

  • Complete necessary documentation for clients including assessments, consent forms, etc. Provide crisis intervention support to clients.

  • Create and maintain client files as needed.

  • Complete and track monthly outcomes and complete reports as requested for grant purposes. Provide ongoing information during staffing regarding individual issues and concerns. Maintain supportive, professional relationships with all staff, volunteers, and students. Participate in QI activities

  • Complete other Duties as assigned by Leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.

  • Basic knowledge of trauma

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes

  • Demonstrates good judgment and discernment in dealing with people.

  • Capable of communicating ideas clearly and effectively

  • Completion of internal DV training

  • Demonstrated ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft Office applications.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • High School education AND two (1) year professional history OR

  • Three (3) years of professional experience

Supervisory Requirements:

  • None

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
