Hiring Range: $44,139 - 47,531

Description: An employee in this class performs a full range of general law enforcement duties on an assigned school campus. Work includes patrolling the school campus during an assigned shift in a vehicle or on foot; preventing, detecting, and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; responding to calls for assistance, student disputes, suspicious activity; serving as a liaison resource to school administration; developing and maintaining positive relations with students and staff; assisting the school with special events; and executing related assignments. An employee in this position is required to perform the essential job functions of a Deputy Sheriff classification, performing a full range of general law enforcement duties during closing holidays and summer breaks. Work involves frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness and decisiveness. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policy and state and federal law, supplemented with specific directions from superior officers. Employees are subject to hazards associated with law enforcement work including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as dangerous persons, and loud noises. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated through observation, records and reports, school and public feedback.

Education and experience requirements:

• Graduation from high school and completion of basic law enforcement training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

• Certification by the North Carolina Sheriffs Training and Standards Commission as law enforcement officer; and
• Possession of a valid North Carolina drivers license.
