Summary This position is located in the Environmental Management Services (EMS), Housekeeping Section of the Tomah VA Medical Center, Tomah, WI. The Tomah VA Medical Center is a level 3 complexity facility. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the shift supervisor of the housekeeping section. Responsibilities The WS-2 Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of housekeeping aides, working a complete shift throughout the medical center. The supervisor serves as the training instructor for all housekeeping aids and acts within general instructions, standard procedures, and established polices given by his/her supervisor, the Section Chief. The Supervisor plans, assigns, and coordinates daily and weekly work schedules and sequences of operations for assigned subordinates. The Supervisor estimates and assigns time, equipment, material, and manpower required for each assignment and project. Informs higher level supervisors of the need to revise work schedules, re-estimating labor, and other reasoning. The Supervisor motivates subordinates to operate as an effective working unit, redirecting the individual workers and assigning the work or tasks to be performed because of unanticipated circumstances. he Supervisor makes unscheduled and scheduled inspections on completed work to compare adherence to instructions and established practices. The Supervisor plans and collaborates with the section chief in conducting studies concerning work flow, design, and development of new tools and equipment, regrouping of functions, staffing requirements, layout of work and work measurement standards as they relate to the assigned group. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Considerable physical effort is exerted during the course of daily activities such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing of stairs. He/she may be required to push heavy carts with housekeeping supplies and lift items 50 pounds or greater. Exposure to environmental conditions prevalent in a GM&S hospital is inherent in this position. The majority of the work is usually performed inside where light and ventilation are good. However, incumbent may be required to work outside to assure the laundry truck is loaded and unloaded, as well as to assist in waste removal and recycling pickups.
