In the role of Associate Director, this outstanding leader, data scientist and bioinformatician will work to optimize our Discovery portfolio. Envisioning the future, you will establish the earliest data science and digital health strategy per compound, that will evolve over the development lifecycle. You will be part of our impactful, cross-functional team of data science leaders with diverse expertise driving value end-to-end across our pipeline from discovery through development, using molecular, digital, imaging and real-world data. This role requires knowledge of sophisticated analytics, bringing to bear bioinformatics, artificial intelligence and machine learning as needed to link molecular data (genetics, gene expression, proteomics) to brain circuitry (e.g. tissue specific, cell type specific, circuit specific expression), mechanisms of action and disease endophenotypes.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will focus on the Neuroscience Discovery portfolio, establishing the strategy and processes for evaluating data science and digital health opportunities. This will be achieved by leading internal and external talent to map therapeutic targets to genetics and brain biology to understand opportunities within different indications or patient populations. You will contribute to broader initiatives integrating multi-model data through AI/ML to impact at target identification and precision medicine across a range of Neurodegenerative and Neuropsychiatric diseases.

The candidate's work will be tightly coupled with our Neuroscience Discovery and Translational Medicine, Population Analytics, and other Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Data Science teams.

  • Create the strategy and process for evaluating therapeutic targets and precision biomarkers from the perspective of genetics, brain biology, and mechanism, drawing upon a combination of internal and external resources.

  • Collaborate with scientists and clinicians to create the initial data science and digital health strategy for Neuroscience targets in discovery, being forward looking and foreseeing the path to launch.

  • Contextualize target gene expression in the context of the neural circuits and cell-types underlying CNS diseases and phenotypes.

  • Apply diverse data sources to evaluate opportunities across potential indications.

  • Remain current on the constantly evolving landscape of neuroscience, neurodegeneration, neuropsychiatry, genomics, bioinformatics and AI/ML research in search of better strategies for prioritizing our portfolio based on biological insights.

Qualifications

  • PhD with 6 years of progressive experience in a computational or physical science with prior experience applying data science to life sciences is required. (A degree in a biological science with extensive application of data science methodologies will also be considered.)

  • Extensive background working hands-on deriving insights from high-dimensional molecular data particularly genetic, RNAseq, proteomic and/or single cell data is required.

  • Track record of scientific contributions in this field with first author publications in high-impact journals is required.

  • Prior experience working in the context of target discovery and validation in a pharmaceutical company is required.

  • Experience translating data into strategies and executable action plans is required.

  • Strong reputation for driving novel solutions to problems and providing strategic advice is preferred.

  • Experience in leading interdisciplinary teams through either people or project leadership is required.

  • Experience working with both discovery scientists and clinicians is preferred.

  • Ability to clearly communicate technical work to a diverse audience is required.

  • Background and experience working in Neuroscience is strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with clinical development processes is preferred.

  • Up to approximately 10% yearly travel is required (International, Domestic).

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $118,000 to $203,550. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporations performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Companys discretion on an individual basis.

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
