Hess Corporation Lead Maintenance Specialist Craft I&E Job in Tioga, North Dakota

HYBRID ELIGIBILITY

This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Tioga, ND. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off every other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Midstream Gathering Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Lead Specialist is part of the Midstream Gathering Maintenance Execution Team supporting continuous improvement in I&E equipment availability and productivity for the ND Midstream gathering asset (oil/water/gas gathering). Working in a team environment, it carries responsibilities for implementing reliability best practices, drives maintenance execution, stewards the maintenance work management system, and oversees all I&E maintenance activities conducted by both Hess and contract workforce. This role interacts with Maintenance, Operations, Reliability Engineering, Supply Chain, and EHS to support equipment maintenance planning, scheduling, coordination, execution, and continuous improvement.

The primary areas of focus for this role include:

Operational Control

Leads safety culture ensuring embedment of Hess safety procedures, best practices, and standard work. Includes strong pre-job planning, dynamic risk recognition and mitigation, daily after-action reviews, safety meeting participation, recognition of positive safety behaviors, accident investigations, safety audits and related activities.

Provides daily leadership in support of Reliability and Maintenance:

  • Leads I&E craft personnel: schedules work assignments, monitors progress, and provides direction, guidance, and coaching. Ensures assignments are completed safely, timely, and with quality.

  • Monitors and tracks staffing conditions, work hours and overtime, job rotation, and absenteeism. Takes action to address any gaps.

  • Oversees equipment troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of I&E equipment performed bHess and contractor personnel. Coordinates with other craft, area, and operations specialists to ensure equipment is safe for maintenance and to optimize equipment down time.

  • Assists, as needed, in the field during facility startups, shutdowns, or upsets.

  • Stewards work management practices including planning, scheduling, permitting, execution, and prompt work closeout/documentation.

  • Actively participates in daily and weekly work schedule development, backlog revies, 30/60/90 forecasting, station outage optimization, weekly cost reviews, and monthly forecasting and accrual reviews.

  • Coordinates with reliability/maintenance engineering and operations / maintenance leadership in preparing PM programs, ensures programs are functioning properly and required records are kept.

  • Ensures I&E team is equipped with proper tools, instruments, workspace, and other necessary implements to perform work safely and with quality. Ensures workforce has required information & specifications to complete work with a high degree of quality and precision.

  • First point of contact for I&E craft for breakdown, emergencies, or abnormal operating conditions to expedite repairs. Coordinates/directs after-hours call-out responses from I&E. Accountable for maintenance activities outside normal working hours including safety, cost, and productivity.

  • Works with the Global Supply Chain team and Master Data to ensure the management of spare parts and bills of material.

  • Provides detailed input and support for annual budget submissions, monthly forecast updates, and accruals.

  • Accountable for cost tracking and performance against budget and forecast. Responsible for driving tool time efficiencies and managing team member workloads to avoid unnecessary overtime labor.

  • Accountable for contractor performance against contract terms

Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborates with internal and external business partners and key stakeholders to ensure proper priorities are placed on deficiencies and continuous learning/improvement processes are fostered.

  • Participates in the development of troubleshooting, repair, and inspection instructions for I&E equipment.

  • Collaborates with Operations to assist in identification of gaps in operating practices which impact equipment reliability, improve maintenance effectiveness, and improve commissioning support.

  • Provides feedback to maintenance planning, operations, scheduling, and supply chain to continuously improve planning, scheduling, and execution processes and procedures.

  • Lead standardized work development; continuously seek to make standardized work more efficient and safer while ensuring work quality.

  • Lead structured problem solving using various tools/aids.

  • Supports operations and maintenance leadership with developing / maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Develops a robust process improvement culture through direction setting and empowering team members to look for ways to make their jobs easier.

Leadership / People Development

  • Develops team members in their technical and professional competence through performance evaluation, development of training plans, feedback, and coaching. Works with Competency Assurance and Training (CAT) to update training matrices, schedule training, and assure training is effective.

  • Identifies, develops, and delivers routine technical training to maintenance and operations personnel. Assigns tasks and training considering each technician’s development needs and career goals.

  • Develops mentor/coach relationships to develop embedded craft personnel and contractor support. Provides direction to team members emphasizing quality, efficiency, productivity, cost reduction, environment/health/safety, and morale.

  • Develops and maintains positive team member relations centered on mutual trust, dignity, respect, fairness, consistency, two-way communication, teamwork, and harmony.

  • Work Environment

  • Field based role (Tioga / Keene) 5/2 (9/80) work schedule. Expectations for this role include a heavy field presence to ensure jobs are being performed safely and the workforce is trained properly.

Experience/Skills

  • 5+ years of I&E maintenance experience in refining, petrochemical, oil and gas industry experience or equivalent industry related experience such as energy, military maintenance, mining, or other heavy manufacturing.

  • 2+ years of leadership experience as formal people leader in production environment preferred.

Basic proficiency in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (IEEE, ISA, NFPA, NEC, API)

  • Troubleshooting and repair of electrical, instrumentation, and controls equipment such as motors, PLCs, motor control centers, generators, and process instrumentation (transmitters, valves, controllers, etc.).

  • Failure analysis

  • RCM based Predictive and Preventive Maintenance strategies.

  • Strong knowledge of work management system, corrective/preventative maintenance planning, and equipment master data utilization

  • Strong knowledge of applicable EHS procedures/practices such as Permit to Work, Energy Isolation, Respiratory Protection, PPE, Emergency Response

  • Proficient computer skills / business system knowledge (CMMS, Microsoft Suite)

  • Possess strong written and verbal communications skills with ability to lead, coach, and train others.

  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills

  • Able to work in fast-paced, constantly changing production environment.

  • Must be available outside normal working hours for technical support if needed.

  • Strong organization, time management, prioritization, and planning skills and able to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines for self and team.

Education/Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred
