Tigard Public Library is looking for an organized, equity-minded person with strong interpersonal skills who is enthusiastic about connecting members of the community with meaningful tasks and projects. Our next volunteer coordinator will have a strong ability to focus on the library’s strategic plan to develop robust, tailored volunteer opportunities that expand a participant’s ability to tell the library’s story within the community.
General Duties:
Gathers, trains, and celebrates the contributions of library volunteers
Supports the work of all library divisions by connecting community members with varied knowledge and skills to well-matched volunteer opportunities
Maintains systems and records related to volunteer service
Engages with patrons and volunteers through frontline customer service

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of principles and practices of volunteer coordination
Knowledge of principles and practices of library programs, services, and resources
Ability to successfully support and engage with individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
Ability to teach or train individuals with a wide variety of learning styles
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Bachelor's Degree in business or public administration or related field AND
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience coordinating, implementing and directing volunteer programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a public library environment.
Supplemental Information
Union: This position is not represented by a Union.
Schedule: This position is 32 hours per week (0.8 FTE) and requires some regular evening and weekend shifts. Schedule may be adjusted periodically for trainings or outreach events.
Compensation:
The hourly range for this position is $30.35-$39.68 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $35.71 per hour.
