Assistant Professor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Assistant Professor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology will provide instruction to undergraduate students at Heidelberg University. This is a 3-year, non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of renewal.

The desired/anticipated start date is August 2025. The successful candidate will teach 24 credit hours per academic year, including General Psychology, Research Methods, Introduction to Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and courses in the candidate's area of specialization.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the Chair of the Psychology and Criminology Department.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The hire will serve as an academic supervisor for students in the Psychology major, and may supervise teaching

assistants, student internships, and student research.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Professor of Psychology will:

  • Teach a full-time teaching load (24 credit hours per academic year), including Introduction to Industrial-Organizational Psychology, General Psychology, Research Methods, and new courses pertaining to the hire's specialization.
  • Utilize innovative and collaborative teaching methods in support of the Department's mission and learning objectives.
  • Attend department and faculty meetings.
  • Contribute to Departmental and interdisciplinary initiatives, including recruitment and retention efforts and curriculum development.
  • Participate in University activities including but not limited to: extra- and co-curricular activities supporting student success and achievement in alignment with a liberal arts tradition, academic advising, institutional and departmental service, and professional development activities which personally and academically enhance a professional academic career.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned in the Faculty Manual.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Professional Experience:

(A) A.B.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology (or closely related field) from an APA accredited

institution.

(B) College-level teaching experience.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

(A) PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from an APA accredited institution.

(B) Ability to contribute to Human Resources, Marketing, Management, or Business majors.

(C) Ability to perform research with undergraduates.
