Position Summary:

MPC's Galveston Bay Refinery has an opening for a CAD specialist in the Engineering department.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience. One role is expected to be filled from this requisition and is based at the Galveston Bay Refinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Owns and Maintains CAD standards. Participates “CAD Superuser” team meetings to decide on updates and alignment of CAD standards across the Electrical, Pipeline, and Terminal Design teams.

  • Owns CAD templates, profiles, and tool palettes and makes updates as needed.

  • Provides updated standards to third parties and serves as the point of contact for clarification on CAD standards, naming, profiles, templates, and tool palettes for project designs.

  • Creates new 3D Models or tool palette specs, equipment, or parts for other designers that are needed during their projects.

  • Serves as digital liaison and collaborates with IT to troubleshoot software/computer issues that are seen across the team.

  • Works with IT to setup and test new versions and updates of CAD software.

  • Supports process improvement and digital modernization initiatives, specifically those involving new software or software updates as well as scripts and programming commands to increase efficiency.

  • Peer reviews all project designs for quality assurance before package submissions to the project leader.

  • Centralizes the onboarding process for new designers/co-ops to ensure a consistent and accurate training experience extending through their first proposed design project. Serves as an ongoing mentor for Designers.

  • Acts as a dedicated resource for CAD program and process questions, allowing for quicker answers and improved recognition of patterns/common issues across the teams.

  • Provides advice/tips on improving daily work efficiency based on common issues seen across the teams.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED required; CAD related Associates preferred. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Minimum 5 years of related design and drafting experience.

  • Experience managing contractor/staff and directing routine work.

  • Vendor management experience preferred.

  • Able to perform field visits and as-built redlines.
