Baylor Scott & White Health Trauma Registrar in Temple, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

The Trauma Registrar, in collaboration with Trauma Program Leadership, identifies trauma registry patients, collects and accurately enters all required data elements, and assists with the timely reporting of the data to the Texas Department of State Health Services according to existing regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Identifies patients daily that meet National Trauma Databank Standard trauma registry inclusion criteria.

Concurrently abstracts detailed clinical and administrative data from the medical record to meet hospital, accreditation, and regulatory agency requirements.

Ensures accuracy and confidentiality in the handling of all trauma registry related matters.

Runs reports when requested to promote process improvements and optimum patient care.

Participates in data validation and chart auditing process.

Consults with physicians or other clinical staff as needed for the assistance with acquiring trauma case reporting information.

Assists with reporting and transmitting hospital data in a timely and complete manner as required to relevant reporting agencies.

Works closely with trauma program leadership, to maintain trauma designation status.

Supports Trauma Program Performance Improvement and Injury prevention initiatives by providing accurate and timely data abstraction.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

Knowledge in Trauma Registry methodology, case abstracting, and data entry.

Knowledge of data integrity and interrater reliability processes.

Knowledge of International Classification of Diseases (ICD) coding, Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and Injury Severity Score (ISS) scoring.

General computer skills, including but not limited to using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning and email.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Healthcare experience preferred.

Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) preferred.

Completion of American Traum Society's Trauma Registry Course or equivalent state approved data management course

IDC - 10 refresher course required every 5 years

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

  • EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience

  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Abbr. Injury Scale (AAAM AIS): AIS course within 12 months.

  • Cert Abbrev Injury Scale Spec (CAISS): CAISS within 36 months.

  • ICD10 Coding Certificate (ICD): ICD course within 12 months.

  • Trauma Data Registry Course (TDRC): Trauma Data Registry course within 12 months.

  • Certified Trauma Registries (CSTR): CSTR or CAISS within 36 months.
