Objectives/Purpose of the Job:

Performing and reporting on routine and non-routine microbiological testing and environmental monitoring (EM) in support of aseptic manufacturing operations.

Key Activities / Responsibilities:

The Laboratory Microbiologist is expected to perform the following duties, as assigned:

  • Perform routine testing for release of raw materials, finished products, stability samples and R&D products. Support on time product release metrics.

  • Ensure all work is performed and documented in accordance with existing company policies, procedures, and Current Good Manufacturing Practices, health and safety requirements.

  • Perform routine assays for endotoxin, potency, sterility, bioburden, microbial limits, and preservative effectiveness on various finished products and/or raw materials.

  • Conduct temperature chart readings daily and changing chart weekly.

  • Support testing validations and protocols with technical execution and writing.

  • Perform identification of micro-organisms and support microbial trending for the facility.

  • Maintain laboratory culture collection and preserve cultures.

  • Contribute to the preparation and review of environmental summaries.

  • Maintain and analyse data in LIMS and assist in performance of trend analysis and trend reports.

  • Prepare testing media, wash glassware, and run autoclave.

  • Assist Microbiologist or Team Lead with any questions regarding routine testing and training.

  • Participate in rotation of lab responsibilities and weekend testing rotations.

  • Perform testing in conjunction with laboratory investigations.

  • Perform testing in support of facility Validation activities.

  • Participate in identified projects as assigned by team leadership.

  • Perform any other tasks/duties as assigned by leadership.

  • Support EHS and SOS initiatives.

  • Read/Record all pertinent data on the appropriate forms or computer system in accordance with GDP and ALCOA principles.

  • Order and maintain the supplies and inventory of laboratory stations as assigned, with adherence to 5S standards.

Qualifications/Training/Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or equivalent Life Science required

  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience in a cGMP compliant industry

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand for up to 4 hours at a time

  • Ability to lift and/or carry 25 lbs.

  • Ability to achieve 20/20 correctable vision

  • Ability to maintain proper personal hygiene

  • Ability to wear laboratory PPE/attire

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers and management

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work full-time, onsite, including overtime and weekends if necessary, to meet department / site objectives

  • Ability to understand and accurately comply with SOPs, test methods, and cGMP requirements

  • Advanced communication skills (oral and written)

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, etc.)

  • Strong organization skills / attention to detail

  • Good work ethic (on time, highly motivated, etc.)

  • Basic knowledge of pharmaceutical microbiological testing / environmental monitoring techniques

Eligibility for Internal Applicants:

  • Have no corrective actions at the written warning level in last six months/no final warning level in the last 12 months / no active PIP.

  • Meet the qualifications of the position as stated above.

  • Be in your current job for 12 months.

  • Position applying for must be a step up in progression and not a step down.
