    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    Perform technical assignments for preliminary development of statewide design standards, criteria and guidelines relating to roadway design and roadway construction plans. Perform preliminary analysis of engineered components within the design standards for compliance with current design practices and criteria. The incumbent must exercise independent judgment and proper application of engineering fundamentals in accomplishing these tasks.

    Provide computer aided drafting and design technical support in the research and development and/or modification of the Standard Plans. This responsibility includes the search and dissemination of background materials for the development of details and working drawings for the Standard Plans and includes the preparation of final technical drawings for the Standard Plans.

    Update and maintain website as needed to stay in line with other FDOT offices. Adjust website with updated review packages for different review cycles throughout the year. Convert to digital files and maintenance of digital libraries for web site installation. Monitor the web site for accuracy, clarity, and convenience to the users.

Provide assistance to districts and their consultants and to municipalities and other government authorities on issues related to the Design Standards. This includes assisting with the assembly of training materials and support of training that is given on a statewide basis. This also includes support for Department Quality Assurance activities.

Maintain a close, cooperative working relationship between other Department offices, the Federal Highway Administration, and the transportation industry on all matters relating to area of responsibility. Participates in Department cross-functional and coordinating task team activities. Advise superiors on matters relating to area of responsibility and in their absence acts on these matters as appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of roadway design and roadway construction plans. Knowledge of Roadway Design Criteria and the application of appropriate engineering fundamentals to design details and design notes. Skill in using computer aided drafting and design software to prepare engineering drawings and details, and roadway design related graphics. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to work effectively as a team member. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to be proactive and work independently. Skill in developing and delivering technical training and making presentations. Ability to make website updates and additions.

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or its equivalent and three years of experience in any of the following: transportation engineering, transportation planning, roadway design, or local government planning/engineering. An engineering or engineering technology degree may substitute for experience requirement
