POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for maintaining a statewide data communications network consisting of multiple host computers, over 10,000 workstations, and numerous computer interfaces. Troubleshoots and takes corrective action on communication problems; operates diagnostic equipment; contacts network maintenance vendors and/or FDLE information systems Support staffto transmit problems reports, diagnostic procedures taken to date, and monitors resolution of the problem.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Problem reports are received and recorded in a timely and professional manner;

  • Correcting actions that are available for immediate resolution;

  • Correcting actions quickly that require assistance from other staff or maintenance vendors;

  • Assisting users of FDLE information systems such as the Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC);

  • Updating FCIC files with Florida information from the FBI’s National Crime Information Center;

  • Following standard operating procedures and assisting callers in a courteous and professional manner with their questions/problems;

  • Recording and categorizing calls accurately and completely;

  • Monitoring interstate communications and redirecting misrouted messages;

  • Forwarding problems that cannot be immediately resolved to the appropriate staff or organization in a timely manner; and

  • Recording and maintaining accurate logs of all systems, workstation and/or data circuit downtime.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of telecommunications, principles, equipment, terminology, and procedures;

  • Skills in using telecommunications test equipment;

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve telecommunications problems;

  • Ability to analyze technical problems and do abstract problem solving;

  • Ability to receive and carry out work assignments in a timely manner following standard operating procedures;

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical data processing information verbally and in writing; and

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    BASE SALARY:

  • $43,775.00

    BACKGROUND:

    FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. The elements of a background include: financial credit check, criminal history of applicant and applicant’s immediate family or roommates, personal references, employment and education verifications (which includes official transcript(s)), drug screen and fingerprinting. This information will be utilized to make the final hiring decision.

    NOTES:

    Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
