POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a full-time position located in Criminal History Services. Under the direction of the Criminal Justice Information Manager, this position assists with projects related to the Criminal History Services section to include various applications and databases, and other regulatory agency-specific projects. The incumbent in this position will serve as a subject matter expert and technical liaison with Information Technology Services for multiple applications. Additionally, this position provides research analysis relative to state and national laws, rules, and regulations that directly or indirectly have an impact on the dissemination of criminal justice data or information. This position works independently and in teams to accomplish objectives established in the section’s strategic plan and consults with other governmental agencies to evaluate their information needs and capabilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Determining the impact of existing and proposed laws, rules, and regulations on existing and developmental programs by using analysis and research, and ensuring that current programs and all suggested enhancements are in compliance with all requirements;

  • Conducting research and analysis to prepare plans, recommendations, and reports relating to objectives established by the division’s strategic plan;

  • Serving as the subject matter expert related to computerized criminal history systems to include comprehension and interpretation of interface contract documents, operation guides, and database relationships;

  • Providing on-going quality assurance to identify potential problems and recommending alternative resolutions related to the use of systems, and on a rotational basis this includes system monitoring for after-hours system installs and upgrades;

  • Coordinating maintenance and development of operational systems in conjunction with Information Technology Services to ensure organizational goals and statutory requirements are met;

  • Consulting with local, state, and federal agencies related to criminal justice information systems, and advising and coordinating with these agencies for the development of criminal justice information plans;

  • Maintaining thorough knowledge of the divisional strategic plan and ensuring all objectives, as assigned are addressed; and

  • Performing other related duties where appropriate or as requested by division leadership.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices;

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication;

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection;

  • Skills in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply state and federal laws;

  • Ability to maintain Florida and National Crime Information (FCIC/NCIC) certification;

  • Ability to work with and troubleshoot multiple applications;

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;

  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner;

  • Ability to work independently;

  • Ability to utilize problem solving techniques;

  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments;

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.

    BACKGROUND:

    FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.     Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
