Robert Half Executive Director of Human Resources in Tacoma, Washington

Description

Robert Half is working with a local college in the Tacoma, WA area who is in search of their next Executive Director of Human Resources. As part of the Executive Leadership team, the HR Director will play a critical role in managing all aspects of human resources functions, including recruitment and employment; compensation and benefits administration; payroll; labor relations; employee relations; employee development and training; discrimination and harassment complaints; affirmative action; diversity initiatives; disciplinary actions; and human resources policies and procedures. This role will entail working within the framework of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), dealing with union issues, and engaging in labor negotiations. Reporting to the president of the college, the Executive Director is designated as the staff Ethics Officer, and the Title IX and ADA Coordinator for issues involving employees and visitors. Responsibilities:

Resolve grievances with managers and supervisors.

Assist in misconduct investigations and disciplinary actions following College policies and agreements.

Lead labor negotiations, committees, and bargaining teams.

Oversee investigations of discrimination and harassment complaints and prepare responses to external agencies.

Coach and train supervisors on performance standards and employee evaluations.

Assess and support human resources needs with administrators, faculty, and staff.

Consult with the Assistant Attorney General and prepare for arbitration and legal cases.

Implement diversity programs and equal opportunity initiatives.

Develop and execute human resources strategies aligned with the College's strategic plan and values.

Ensure effective new employee onboarding and orientation.

Manage human resources records for compliance and efficiency.

Oversee benefits administration including health, retirement, leave, and unemployment.

Ensure recruitment processes comply with laws, regulations, and College policies.

Manage public record requests for legal compliance.

Lead the College's performance evaluation program and develop management tools.

Oversee staff development programs and faculty certification.

Provide leadership and supervision to HR staff to align with the College's strategic goals.

Prepare and manage department budgets within College guidelines.

Develop and administer College HR policies for consistency and legal compliance.

Serve on the President's Cabinet and as a resource for College councils and committees.

Act as liaison to external agencies and organizations on HR matters.

Represent the College on the Human Resources Management Commission.

Serve as the Ethics Officer and advise on State Ethics Law.

Act as the Title IX and ADA Coordinator for employee.

Manage the HR and Payroll staff of 6 total direct reports.

Requirements

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $125,000-$140,000. Benefits offered with this position include generous Medical/Dental/Vision coverage for employee, spouse, and all dependents, participation in the State Board Retirement Plan or the Public Employee Retirement Systems Plan, Life and LTD insurance (provided by employer), 24 days of vacation, 12 sick days, 4 personal leave days, 5 family leave days, and 13 paid holidays, for a total of 58 paid days off per year, as well as additional optional benefits!

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of proven experience in HR leadership roles, preferably as an HR Director.

• Demonstrable experience in Labor Negotiations.

• In-depth knowledge of various HR functions such as compensation and benefits, employee relations, and compliance.

• Excellent understanding of labor laws, unions, and collective bargaining agreements.

• Experience in handling Union Contracts, Union Grievances, and Union Reports.

• Experience understanding personnel practices and state (civil service) and federal laws relating to classified personnel, Title IX, and Affirmative Action

Additional Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

• Experience in a college environment

• Senior HR industry certification (such as SPHR, SHRM, IPMA-CP)

• Proficiency in managing Employee Relations Investigations

• Demonstrated ability to strategize and implement HR plans in alignment with business goals

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of liaising effectively with the C-Suite

• Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, ensuring smooth HR operations

• Proficiency in using HR software and databases for efficient management

• Familiarity with strategic planning in a corporate setting

• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
